Side by Side in Rue

www.fromtherightbank.com

I have something really fun to share with you today! Rue‘s June/July issue came out yesterday and you’ll find me in it alongside Jordan from Oh Happy Day in the Blogger Side by Side feature (on page 38). I don’t think I’ve been illustrated before so I’m getting a big kick out of that – especially since I look so much taller and thinner! Ha!

If you haven’t seen the new issue yet, you can read it here. Thank you, Rue!

FROM THE RIGHT BANK in InStyle

As a blogger, seeing your blog’s name in print is a huge thrill so you can imagine how excited I was to get a mention in the November issue of InStyle!

It’s an even bigger thrill when they’re as nice as this. Thank you so much, Kate and InStyle! You made my month!

P.S. Clearly I need a better scanner. If anyone has recommendations, please share. I’d love one that is really compact, mainly for scanning magazines.

Sneak Peek of the Kitchen Office + FTRB in Lonny!

www.fromtherightbank.com

I have a quick sneak peek for you guys today. We have a small office on one side of the kitchen and for some reason it seems to be the place where all the junk ends up. So it was looking like this for a while:

A hot mess. I couldn’t take it anymore so it was one of the things I tackled over the holidays.

The first thing I did was to get rid of the doors on the upper cabinets. That gave me more display space (which I don’t have much of in the kitchen). That little bulletin board was also getting on my nerves so I tore it out. Then it was just a matter of decluttering and organizing.

If the art wall looks familiar, it’s because it’s the one from my old office. You may remember I moved my office to the basement. I have different plans for the walls down there so this collection of travel photos and posters needed a new home. If you want to know about the individual pieces, you can find it in this post. I just got the “Tara” sign when I took my parents to visit the Margaret Mitchell House over Christmas. (You know, one of those touristy things you do when you have out-of-town visitors.) I like to have a souvenir of all the cities/countries where I’ve lived and I couldn’t resist the kitsch factor. Interesting side note: Did you know that 2011 is the 75th anniversary of the publication of Gone With the Wind? Or maybe frankly, you don’t give a damn. Hehehe…..

So, shall we take bets on how long it’ll stay this neat?

And for those of you who weren’t on Twitter or Facebook last night: Yesterday, I dove into the fantastic new issue of Lonny (like I always do the minute it goes live) and I was completely immersed in the very cool home of Angel Dormer, style manager for West Elm, when lo and behold what do I see but this:

A lot of squealing ensued. I mean a lot. Thank you, Angel and Lonny!

FROM THE RIGHT BANK in the Independent

Happy 2011, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. It was nice to take a little blogging break but I’m happy to be back!

I’m not one for new year’s resolutions but I do love the fresh start a new year always promises and I have a feeling 2011 is going to be the best yet. I have tons of new and exciting projects in the works and I can’t wait to share them with you in the coming months.

But if I can just toot my horn for today, I’m positively thrilled to have been quoted in UK’s the Independent in an article entitled, “Say goodbye to shabby chic: The essential design guide to the year ahead.” I can’t think of a better way to start out the new year than trendspotting for a global audience!

I wish you all much happiness, peace and inspiration in this new year. Here’s to 2011!
