Design Notes from New York

www.fromtherightbank.com

Good morning! How was your weekend? I’m back from New York which was great as always. I ran all over town until all hours (which I always do when I’m there) and one of the million things I did was to make the rounds at my favorite shops for some design inspiration. Here are some highlights.

Calypso Home is just killing it these days:

I want every single one of their rugs:

The colors and patterns at Marimekko are always so happy:

And of course, ABC never disappoints:

I’m obsessed with this chandelier there:

In other lighting obsessions, I couldn’t stop staring at this amazing light while having lunch at Jean-Georges:

Here’s a better photo from their site:

I did a little research and learned it’s a custom fixture by l’Observatoire International. They do amazing work!

So I’ve got a busy Monday unpacking and catching up on mail and projects. I have a cool new project that I’ll be telling you all about a bit later in the week too. Here’s hoping for a productive week!

Design Notes from Amarvilas, India

Hi, everybody, I’m back!

Like all my past trips to India, I’m back with fresh new inspiration. These are a few design notes I took around the Oberoi Rajvilas where I stayed in Jaipur. Between the architecture and decor, I couldn’t stop snapping photos. More than anything, I’m really inspired to inject more color into my home now.

In addition to inspiration, I also brought back a couple of extra pounds and I don’t mean just in my suitcase! (If you follow me on Twitter, you saw that I ate nonstop. As a vegetarian, there’s no better place to eat in the world than India.) So today we diet. And we also tackle the mountain of laundry and bursting inbox. Home sweet home!

Design Notes from XVA Gallery, Dubai

Greetings from Dubai!

One of the things I love most about traveling is getting to experience places like the XVA Gallery, an art gallery showcasing contemporary Middle Eastern art as well as a hotel and cafe. I’m always curious as to what creative people are up to around the world and I adore spots like the XVA that are brimming with original designs and ideas. We spent an afternoon viewing art and having lunch in its lovely courtyard. Here are some photos I took of its beautifully decorated spaces for my inspiration files:

Isn’t that chair with the face kind of crazy and fun at the same time?

So it’s been a fun few days – perfect weather, great food and some new experiences: seeing the world’s tallest tower and the world’s only 7-star hotel in the flesh, a ride on an abra (small wooden boat) and “Ladies’ Taxis” driven by and solely for transporting – you guessed it – ladies.

Alright, that’s enough gabbing for today. Next stop: India!

Scenes and Design Notes from the Farm

www.fromtherightbank.com

Greetings from Tennessee! While the word “farm” is in its name, Blackberry Farm isn’t exactly your average farm. It’s rustic luxury at its very best in a beautiful mountain setting and the decor is spot on.

Gray velvet rolled arm sofa? Yes, please. Worn leather couch and 19th century oil paintings in gilt frames? My name written all over it. See the perfect grid of botanical prints? It hides the tv. Pretty and functional. And tell me those chairs don’t make you want to paint something turquoise.

I’m off to explore some more so I’ll leave you with that for today.
