A Summer Market Soirée

www.fromtherightbank.com

Hi, everyone, how have you been? It felt so weird not blogging for an entire week! But it was fun connecting with a lot of you on Instagram and Facebook. (I took so many pictures! The one above is one of my favorites from the trip.) Anyway, I flew home yesterday and as usual after a trip to Paris, I’m more high on all things French than ever. So I’m happy I get to indulge in a little bit of Paris here at home next week when I co-host  A Summer Market Soirée with Ann and Meg of Huff Harrington Home!

www.fromtherightbank.com

This is going to be one fun event so if you’re in Atlanta next Friday, the 13th, you must come! It’ll also be the perfect way to round out your day if you’re attending the International Gift & Home Furnishings Market. There will be champagne, Lillet cocktails and mingling among all the French pretties, including a shipment fresh from Paris:

And as if that weren’t enough, one lucky partygoer will win three nights at Ann’s drop dead gorgeous apartment in Paris:

So please join us! And spread the word too. I can’t wait to see you all there!

Alright, I’ve got a lot of unpacking to do. Aside from all the laundry, I may have done a little shopping….. Have a wonderful weekend!

Bonjour Paris + Save the Date

www.fromtherightbank.com

Hi, friends, I’m leaving for Paris today and for the first time in 3 1/2 years of blogging, I’ll be taking some time off! I pride myself on posting every (week)day – even while I’m traveling – but I recently concluded that the world wouldn’t come to an end if I took a little break now and then!  And since it’s going to be very busy trip celebrating birthdays, catching up with friends and hitting les soldes (the country’s huge biannual sale) this trip is the perfect time for a little blogcation. I won’t be totally unplugged, of course! I’ll be posting daily photos on Instagram (@FromTheRightBank) and Twitter and any interesting finds/news on Facebook. I’ll be back blogging on July 6th.

In the meantime, please save the date for a very French event…..

Colony Palms Hotel, Palm Springs

www.fromtherightbank.com

Do you remember the episode of Million Dollar Decorators when Martyn Lawrence Bullard (love him so much) was redoing the Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs? Even though it aired last year, the renovation was actually completed almost 5 years ago. Look how great it still looks today.

Hotels are at a particularly high risk of looking dated very quickly so it’s a real testament to his talent that it still looks so good.

Having said that, however, the cabana did get a facelift by former J. Crew creative director Scott Formby recently:

I don’t have any pics of what it looked like before so who knows why they felt the need to revamp it. But apparently Formby stuck to Bullard’s original vibe, adding dark upholstery, greenery and brass pieces. How cool are the table and the detail on the loungers? I’d love an outdoor space like this….. if I actually spent any time outside, that is!

Billy Baldwin’s l’Arbre de Matisse

www.fromtherightbank.com

So I had a huge “duh” moment when a reader (thanks, Sheila!) let me know that the mystery wallpaper in the Bosch/Ballard Model Home that I posted about last week is Billy Baldwin’s l’Arbre de Matisse by Quadrille. The pattern was inspired by that Matisse hanging above the sofa. Both Matisse and Billy Baldwin are only two of my idols so like I said: duh.

Anyway, no doubt you all saw it in Tory Burch’s apartment:

Here are some other shots of it:

These are the available colorways in regular and reverse. (That blue in Tory Burch’s home is a custom color. Of course.)

I’m completely obsessed. I must have this pattern in my life. Here’s one option:

But I need another chair like I need another hole in the head so somebody else buy these please! As for me, I’ll file it away and just obsess until the perfect project presents itself. Trust me, you are going to see l’Arbre de Matisse on FTRB again!

String Lights

www.fromtherightbank.com

I’m a sucker for string lights both indoors and out. I just find them completely irresistible. One of the prettiest spaces I’ve seen that’s decorated with string lights is the rooftop at the Gramercy Park Hotel:

The food’s not bad but it’s the atmosphere that makes it so special.

And my other favorite spot is Freemans which is also in New York:

It’s been years but I still think that entrance at the end of an alley is one of the cutest in the entire city.

I’ve always fantasized about having a garden all lit up by hundreds of lights. The closest I ever got was wrapping a tree at our last house like this:

But what I’ve always had in mind is something more like this:

No, no one’s getting married in our backyard but we don’t need a reason to make things more festive, right?

The tricky part about string lights, of course, is the wiring. The part of our garden that I want to light up is not close to the house or any electrical outlet and I don’t want a huge cord running all the way across the yard.

But I recently stumbled on these solar string lights from Grandin Road:

I also found these on a site called LampLust:

www.fromtherightbank.com

They’re nylon and supposed to be okay outdoors year round but I don’t know if I trust that.

Anyway, they’re both so much cuter than the usual solar lighting so I’m thinking about giving one of them a try. Have you tried any solar lights? Do you have any recommendations?

So what fun things do you have planned for this first weekend of summer? We’ve got back to back concerts (including Norah Jones – love her!) and other than that, I’m looking forward to relaxing at home with the pups before we hit the road next week. Have a good one and I’ll see you all Monday!
