Sneak Peek of the New and Improved Art Studio

Remember how I had my art supplies all spread out on a desk in my studio and how I was planning on getting a rolling cart? Well, I did one better.  I got the map table/cabinet I posted about on Friday! Here it is in my studio, piled high with art supplies.

It’s so huge that there is plenty of room for me to put all my painting supplies on one side and still have room to draw and work on other projects on the other side.

I loved it initially for its looks but it’s also totally practical. The huge flat drawers are the perfect place to store my drawings, large photographs and paper. It’s like it was made for this space! I was afraid it might actually be too big but it fits perfectly as you can see here:

At some point, I’ll get a couple of stools to put on either side.

Getting the table motivated me to organize and to also finish filling up my inspiration board:

Now I’m ready to start churning out masterpieces ….. Ha!

Sneak Peek of the Art Studio

Being shut in for a week does have its benefits. (I did make it out this weekend for those who asked!) All that time in the house allowed me to actually finish a few of the countless paintings I have lying around. So, today I thought I’d give you a small peek of my studio.

I still need to do a lot in there, like get a rolling cart with shelves for my supplies but for now they’re all spread out on this table. I hung the homasote board from my old office to hold sketches, favorite images, references, etc.

Many of you have been asking to see some of my art. For some reason I’ve been reluctant to post them here but I finally decided what the hell. So, for the very first time, here are some of the paintings I’ve been working on:

I hope it’s not too disappointing for those of you who’ve been waiting(!) I like both figurative and abstract so I’m always doing a little of both. I should really focus on one but it works for now. (On the wall are just some ink drawings from a life drawing class years ago.) I’ll be hanging most of the paintings in the house and I’ll post pictures when I do so you can see them better.

So that’s it. It’s just a tiny sneak peek today because like I said, I still have a ton to do. Stay tuned for another look soon!

Orla Kiely’s Studio

orla

Hi, everyone, what a crazy weekend it’s been! I’m home from Atlanta which, if you’ve never been, is a very cool town. (Thank you, nkp, for all of the great info!) I’m feeling a bit frazzled trying to catch up on a million things today but one of the things on my mind is getting my studio in order. (Raina: skip this next part!) I’ve loved Orla Kiely’s studio since I first saw it and it’s inspiring me again to pretty up in there. I love that it’s pretty but also looks like she really works in there. Plus, I just love all the Orla Kiely loveliness!

I also have to say a big thank you to all of you for your support at Apartment Therapy! I’m really touched that so many of you took the time to leave me kind comments there and also here. I believe a couple of more of my posts will be published and then a decision will be made. I’ll definitely keep you posted!

I hope that with all the hoopla this weekend, you didn’t miss my exclusive interview with Vicente Wolf. I’m still kind of on a high from that one. :)

Thank you all again so much! You’re the best readers and friends this blogging girl could ask for!

White Seating With White Art Wall

dressdesign

This is a look I never get tired of – a predominantly white art wall behind a white seat.

dressdesigndecor

I’ve been considering creating this look in my studio where I have a couch draped in white.

But I have so many things on the walls in there, I don’t want it to be overwhelming.

I think it’s a look that could work just about anywhere.

Don’t you think?

My Real Life Desk

dsc_9264

I’ve been cleaning up my studio for like ever and here’s the result! Most recently, I moved my massive work table to this corner because I wanted to sit by those windows. It’s not quite the same view as the dream studio but it’s nice to look out and see all that green.

I don’t know about you but I love seeing people’s desks and workspaces. I’ll try to get my act together and take some pictures of the rest of the space.

Talk About An Inspiring Workspace

Now that I’ve finally cleaned up my studio, I’m turning my attention to the details. But who needs pretty details if you have a view like this:

We had a view of the Eiffel Tower from our old apartment but let me tell you, it was nothing like this! Can you imagine working at this desk every day? Have a great weekend, everyone!

Progress In the Studio

Guess who’s cleaned up her studio? That’s right. But I’ll have to wait to show you the rest because there is a house tour coming. Stay tuned.

Rolling Up My Sleeves

(GuardianIlse Crawford)

I’ve professed my love for Ilse Crawford here before and I posted the first photo of her office last month. But I forgot I had this second photo which I think shows the same room from a different angle and with some of the details changed around. Also, the second photo includes a red chair that looks a lot like the red chairs I wasn’t sure what to do with and it makes me see them in a new light.

So with these as my jumping off point, I’m going to start working on my studio today. Since it’s snowing outside – that’s right, snowing(!) – I’d say it’s a good day to stay inside and get down to it.

Pink Walls?

colorliving(Living Etc.)

A while back, I had our tiny powder room painted a hot pink. (Photos forthcoming, I promise.) It’s the only room where the walls aren’t white because well, I’m a fan of white walls. But now I’m seriously considering painting one of the walls in my studio a shade of pink like this:

futureperfectpeek9(Design Sponge)

pink(Domino)

or something pale like this:

gasl03_tranquilbeds(Domino)

and I actually like how it looks with red:

I think I’m subconsciously delaying tackling my studio by throwing in yet another curve ball. But I really do like the idea. What do you think? Too much?

My Studio: the Ongoing Saga

offic(livingetc.com)

I have been putting off fixing up my studio forever and at this point, it’s downright embarrassing. I have plenty of space and great natural light. I’ve also played around with the furniture placement and think I’ve come up with the optimal layout. But as usual, I have too many ideas and I’m torn as to which direction to go. Warning: this is going to be a long thinking out loud session.

I had always planned on a light, airy space like these:

with an inspiration wall like these:

and an area for painting like these:

shelves full of books:

and an area for lounging. I have a big couch draped in white just like this:

picture-100(sarahkaye.com)

Now if that were all, I’d be done (or at least, I could be done). But as usual, I have too many ideas and can’t make up my mind which way to go. I mentioned my four red leather chairs last week. They remind me of chairs you might find in a Paris bistro like these:

picture-58(joeschmelzer.com)

I like having them in my studio – one is at the computer, one is on the other side of my  work table, one  is in the painting corner, and the fourth one floats around.  But I think that red leather lends itself better to looks like these:

picture-57(joeschmelzer.com)

g_05359_art(marieclairemaison.com)

So I don’t know whether I want to work the room around these chairs or just store them and keep to my light, white color scheme?

Or a third option may be to try to work the red as the accent color like in these photos:

509898(livingetc.com)

If I use red, I think I’d also like to add some yellow because currently I’m just in love with it and it goes so well with red:

orlachair(livingetc.com)

I think that’s enough talking. I need to make a decision, get off my butt and just do it.

The Studio

studio1

This was one corner of my studio in our Paris apartment. Fairly organized and neat the way I like it. But I just haven’t been able to do the same in the new house.  One reason is that even though I have about the same amount of space, all our excess furniture has ended up in there. Most of those will eventually go to the cabin but for now I have to work around them so it’s a challenge. Sorting that out is on the list of projects for the next few weeks. In the meantime, I’m looking at these for inspiration:
