Guest Room

To Paint or Not to Paint the Iron Bed

Thank you all for your feedback on the new blog design. I made a few more changes and additions yesterday and think it’s finally done! If you’re seeing any glitches though please let me know. Thanks again!

Alright so on to today’s post. I’m in love with this room – and this bed. I’ve had this in my files for the longest time because I have a similar antique bed in the guest room and I’ve been wanting to paint it.

Here’s the bed in the guest room of our last house:

I liked the color of it in that room but in our current house I’m not so sure.

Gray or blue would look nice and there’s also always white:

But I think the white would be just a little too shabby chic. I also really like the patina on the bed right now and it would be kind of a shame to cover that up. It reminds me a little of this bed:

So I could just leave it and use a with a warmer color palette for the room which would work well with it. Would you like to weigh in?

Pulling the Guest Room Together

I fell in love with the combination of yellow, gray and red almost two years ago and it looks like I’ll finally get to use it. This room reminds me a little bit of what I’m doing with the second guest room.

I’m not sure if I’m going to hang it on the wall or put it on the bed but I’m using this suzani as my starting point:

I decided to bring in the Dwell Draper Stripe shams I bought over a year ago and still haven’t used:

I like how these colors pull in the colors of the border and fringe on the suzani.

I’ve bought some pillows in a taupy gray and everything else in the room is white or black. Now all I need to do is hang some art and decide on the fabric to reuphoster the Baughman chair and this room will be done! I still love the Manuel Canovas fabric but with the suzani and stripes, it’ll be too much. (I need to use that somewhere else though because I love it so much.) If you have suggestions for the chair, let me know.

Simple White Guest Rooms

emmas

We have guests coming from Paris to stay with us next week and so I’m going to spend a good part of the weekend getting things ready for them. (And dusting off my French! Eek!) It seems like I redo the guest room each time we have a guest and this time is no different! You might remember I added some green to the guest room less than 3 months ago.  Well these days, I’m really into the idea of a really simple, all white (surprise, surprise!) room like these.

I like this idea of a guest/magazine storage room! Would you enjoy staying in one of these? What’s your idea of a nice guest room?

I hope you have some summer fun planned for your weekend. See you again on Monday!

Greening Of The Guest Room

DSC_9513

For the first time ever, I’m using the color green in my house. And in case it’s a short-lived phase, I wanted to do it on the cheap so I went to Ikea for the two throw pillows and rug. I still want to hang some more art in there but it’s ready for guests. And just in time too – our guests arrived yesterday!

Guest Room Ideas

I’m woefully behind on this month’s to do list. One of the things on the list is to fix up the guest room because we have guests coming next month. My goal for the room is just to make it cozy and comfortable. There’s an antique iron bed and a white dresser in there right now.  The room’s pretty small and the bed is queen size so that doesn’t leave room for much else other than maybe a chair that could also be used as a nightstand. There is also white bedding and white cotton drapes on the window.

I want to hang some art above the dresser either framed or just tacked up on the wall:

and find a patterned (or at least colored) shade like this for the window:

Then a small rug and I think I’ll be done. Easy, right? Ha!
