Room Love: Cathedral-Like Library

www.fromtherightbank.com

An historic building re-imagined as a sleek, modern hotel gets me every time but especially when a tome-filled library is its centerpiece. This is the library/lounge of the new B2 Boutique Hotel in Zurich housed in a former brewery and it holds over 30,000 books!  My jaw dropped when I saw the extra high ceiling, arched windows and those light fixtures.

The belted chairs and tables are kind of cooky and funky, don’t you think?

I like what’s going on with the walls too. Overall I think the design is really original and does a great job of highlighting the architectural features of the building.

Chateau Marmont or Beverly Hills Hotel?

www.fromtherightbank.com

Another trip I’ve been planning this year is California later in the spring. There’s no shortage of new, hip and sleek design hotels in L.A. but I’m in the mood for something old Hollywood. To me that means either Chateau Marmont or the Beverly Hills Hotel even though the two are totally different in style.

First, Chateau Marmont and its Loire Valley chateau meets midcentury vibe:

I can’t help but think of Somewhere.

I just loved that movie, didn’t you?

Then there’s the mission revival Beverly Hills Hotel with its iconic pink and green decor and the famous banana leaf wallpaper.

More than the rooms, I think I just want to hang out in all the public spaces and soak up all the history they hold.

Which would you choose?

Ett Hem Hotel Revisited

www.fromtherightbank.com

I already blogged about Stockholm’s Ett Hem Hotel back in August 2012 but recently came across some new photos and just had to share them with you because they are drop. Dead. Gorgeous.

In case you missed the first post, the interior was designed by Ilse Crawford who is one of my favorite, favorite designers. Of all her great projects, I think this may be my favorite to date. The palette is so serene but with just enough color to make it interesting and as usual, her choices in furniture and accessories are flawless.

If you’re going to paint an interior gray, this is the way to do it.

Loving this sunroom. Check out the bust under the table:

Holy, moly that gold cabinet! And the stair rail:

Super Chic El Palauet, Barcelona

www.fromtherightbank.com

Every so often, I need a good dose of white or neutral interiors and El Palauet not only provides that but amazing architecture too.

I can’t even handle this window.

Or this ceiling:

or the one peeking out from the room on the left:

The architecture is so distracting, I almost can’t focus on anything else. But the whole place is pretty exceptional.

It’s one of the chicest mixes of classic and modern I’ve seen lately.

Adria Boutique Hotel, London

www.fromtherightbank.com

I’ve booked a trip to London in March (yay!) so I started looking around to see what’s new on the hotel scene. One that got my attention was the Adria Boutique Hotel. Have a look.

Quirky English style + 19th century Victorian townhouse = my kind of hotel.
