So the work continues here at the FTRB rowhouse but I really, really hope this is the last week of what I call Phase I – the major repairs – then I’m going to take a break, go on vacation (yay!) and do some decorating (double yay!) before starting Phase II in the fall.
On the decorating front, I’ve managed to make all the furniture from our last house work in the new house with the exception of the dining room. It’s going to need a new table because it’s a long room and the round table we have is just not the right shape or size; it needs something rectangular or oval.
Here’s a little peek of the room. Its best features are this beautiful mirror which sits over a fireplace, both original…..
So far, we had the new chandelier and wall sconces installed but that’s about it. I think the black sideboard and white chairs will stay too…..
So here are my favorite dining room designs of the past year or so that I’m looking to for inspiration…..
This may look like I’m all over the place but I have managed to narrow it down to this: Scandinavian or midcentury style; oval or rectangular shape; and white or maple finish. And wouldn’t you know it, my dream table – the Saarinen tulip table – checks all of these boxes. Is it time to finally splurge on one?
As for chairs, as I said, I think the Louis style chairs from our last house will work well…..
But I only have 4 and want to be able to seat 8 so I’ll need to find another 4 in which case maybe I’d be better off starting over with something new? To make things more interesting, you may have seen on my Instagram that I’m giving my mom our Jacobsen chairs from the farmhouse so these could go there too. Here’s what the farmhouse dining room currently looks like…..
So there may be a game of musical chairs happening soon and just in case I do end up getting new chairs, here are the styles I’m considering…..
There are so many good options and the combination possibilities are endless so as usual, I’m incapacitated by indecision(!) So as much as I want the room done right now, I’m going to mull everything over on vacation and hopefully come back with a plan.
Our plan is to kick back in the European countryside then spend a few days in Paris so please join me on Instagram (@FromTheRightBank) if you’d like to follow along. Enjoy the end of your summer, everyone!
