Kitchen Updates & Living Room Tweaks

IMG_1981.jpg

Hi there friends, can you believe it’s August already? It feels like summer just started but then I say that with every passing season. It’s surely a sign of old age….. Anyway, here’s what’s been happening on the FTRB homefront.

The long awaited kitchen island lights arrived and promptly got installed…..

It was worth the wait. I feel like I’ve been documenting the whole saga minute by minute but I could not be happier about them. (By the way, do you see the teeny peek of the white cabinets? I’m happy about that too.)

The faucet also got installed…..

Loving how it looks too. This happened a while back but I think I forgot to mention it here.

Still in the kitchen, I ran into Home Depot the other day just to pick up some spray paint and saw this beauty so naturally, it had to come home with me…..

I thought my fiddle leaf trees were fine but when I saw this one, I realized they were not fine at all. In fact, they were quite sad. I’m sort of hoping this one will make them jealous and make them up their game but I’m doubtful.

There’s been some shuffling of furniture too. You know how you move one piece from one room to another and that sets off a whole chain reaction? I did some rearranging in the kitchen and family room and….. yadda yadda, the round coffee table has now landed in the living room.

It works so much better from a practical point of view (plenty of room to spread out books and cocktails) and the shape makes it perfect for the leopard chairs to hug. It was a why-didn’t-I-do-this-years-ago moment.

I’ve been having fun styling it this way and that…..

So that’s some of what’s new around the homestead.

  1. Love those lights girl…they were definitely worth waiting for. And…after seeing your new fiddle leaf I realize mine is practically dead….time for a funeral:)

  2. Do you find that you get enough light from these above your island? Just curious because they are my favorite but the person at our local lighting store that is helping with all of our lighting for our new home is telling me I would regret these for over my island because they only provide up/downward lighting. We also have can lighting but no windows in actual kitchen. I feel like I have to find something that puts out mid level lighting. When I saw this on Pinterest I just thought it was an opportunity to ask someone who actually has the lights with the metal shades (assuming these are the Goodman w/antique white shade) how they like them? thanks for your time.

    1. Yes, these are the Goodmans with antique white shades. For me, they are perfect as spotlights for the island, along with the recessed lighting which provides the primary light for the kitchen. But your lighting person is right, if you are looking for something in the middle, this may not be your best choice. Hope that helps!

  3. I also gave into the fiddle leaf figs at HD… crossing my fingers that mine stays alive and cat doesn’t eat it for dinner. Yours is nice and tall! which HD did you get it at? mines a baby!

  4. I am completely obsessed with your lights – we wanted them for our house in Beaufort, but ended up going with a more industrial pendant…now I’m wishing for these…love, love!!
