God, I love hotel design. And just when I fear I’ve seen them all, along comes a whole new crop to kick my wanderlust into high(er) gear. Here are four new European hotels whose designs really stand out for me.
First up, I knew I was going to like Berlin’s Das Stue when I read Patricia Urquiola was the designer. It was the former Danish embassy which looks like this on the outside:
Now look what she did on the inside:
Second, we have the Thief in Oslo:
Rich textures and dark tones give it a dramatic atmosphere that is an interesting departure from the light and airy interiors we’re more used to seeing in Scandinavian spaces.
Next, the Wiesergut (near Salzburg) uses classic materials within a modern structure that is designed to blend into the Alpine landscape.
And last but not least, everyone in the travel industry is all over the new Aman Canale Grande Hotel in Venice.
Aman resorts have a sterling reputation so expectations are high for their newest property. Judging strictly by these photos, my guess is it probably wouldn’t disappoint(!) But I think I need to pay it a visit to be certain….. purely for research purposes, of course.
