While I had the dining table set for a lunch this weekend, I snapped some quick photos with my phone to show you a few changes I made.
First I reupholstered the chairs using this taupe and cream striped fabric I had laying around. (I ran out of time to steam out the wrinkles so please excuse…..)
I debated a lot of options but finally chose the stripes because I like the crispness it brings to the room. With all the antique art and furniture, I felt like it needed something fresh.
In the end I also decided to keep it a neutral color so it would be a nice background for whatever colors I wanted to use on the tabletop. For instance for the lunch, I went with a light blue and purple palette using some of my mom’s antique linens:
(I didn’t appreciate all these gorgeous linens when I was growing up but I’m now so happy to have them!)
I also tweaked the art wall a little bit but you can’t tell unless you really study the previous photos…..
Lastly I swapped out the black and white rug for this gray sisal. I really loved the black and white but it was just too small. Under a dining table, a rug really needs to be large enough for the chairs when they are pulled out and I already had the sisal and it was the perfect size. (I tried it with the black and white over the sisal too but it bugged me.)
And with that, the dining room is officially finished! (For 2012 anyway!)
