Richard Woods’ Bright Faux Bois

Ever since I got the November issue of House Beautiful I haven’t been able to get this bar out of my head! The homeowner asked artist Richard Woods to do the bright faux boix painting for which he is famous and I think the result is so fresh, unique, and fun.
Here is some more of his work at the New Art Gallery Walsall in the UK:

and on the facade of the MCM flagship store in Seoul:

But you may recognize it best on the garage and front door of Bob and Cortney Novogratz’ New York home:

The reason I love it so much is that it’s faux bois but it’s not really trying to look like wood. That’s what makes it so fun.
I still haven’t gotten around to wallpapering or doing anything with our wet bar and now I’m really tempted to try to knock off Richard Woods. Do you think I can pull it off?

I absolutely think you can pull it off. It will be fabulous, plus all that glimmer and shine of glasses, bottles, etc. on the shelves…wow.

Totally recognized it from the Novogratz! You can pull anything off!
Thanks for connecting the dots for me bar=doors. It was driving me a little crazy. It would be great if you figure out the DIY and then share so we can all do it, too. It’s just so cool!
It looks like a freehand drawing and painting project to me. If (big if) I decide to go for it, I’ll document the process.
Hi again, I thought I’d share with you the Wonderables website, in case you haven’t seen it yet. I think they have awesome stuff. The vases with the figurines are now at Anthropology where I got mine.
Hope you like…http://www.wonderable.com/product/vases.html
Thanks, Monica! I’m off to check it out now…..
