Design Plan Around my Burgundy Sofa

I know a lot of you aren’t convinced about the color burgundy. It’s cool. I get it. That’s why my couch has been disguised as white all these years!

But I’m totally on board with bringing it into my family room so while my burgundy slipcover is at the cleaners, I’ve been scheming a little design plan around it. In looking around my house, I realized that the light blue I have going on in most of my house is the perfect foil for it.

I’m thinking of throwing in a little mustard or orange and a brighter blue as accents:

Can you picture it? Something like this:

and this (which I posted the other day):

I posted about staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York when it first opened and commented that the color scheme was something I’d never use but found interesting. Well, check this out:

Isn’t it funny how things stay imprinted in your mind like that? The burgundy sofa looks so great against the blue. And here’s another room in the hotel with a burgundy chair and lighter blue walls that are closer to the blues I have in my house:

The colors also remind me of this awesome room by Angie Hranowsky:

More burgundy and blue. I’m loving it!

And remember the other day when I said Jeffrey Bilhuber wasn’t afraid of burgundy? He’s not afraid of any other color either. Or using them all together!

Only he could pull this off! I’m not nearly as bold as this but it’s so inspiring.

So that’s my new plan and I’m totally into it. I think the main reason I’ve been having such a hard time with this room is no matter what I did, it felt very been-there-done-that and I want to do something unexpected and different.  I can’t wait to start executing it!

Have a great weekend, guys! I’m getting a long overdue haircut (I’m like Rapunzel over here these days) and we’re having a little fete to celebrate this guy’s birthday:

There will be plenty of butter and cheese involved. His two favorite foods. Mine, too, come to think of it!

See you Monday!

Thanks much for the burgundy sofa posts! I have a burgundy Natuzzi leather sectional. Truthfully, it wasn’t my first choice- I wanted white- but it was priced to sell on Craigs List. I treat it as a neutral with buckskin pony on the walls, peacock curtains plus a coup de rouge in my family room.
A quote on trending colors for fall, “Burgundy, oxblood, merlot …it flatters virtually all skin tones, has the ability to act as a neutral that can be paired with nearly any other color, and it instantly adds a dose of sultriness to even the most drab of ensembles.” ;)

Last year I found this gorgeous burgundy velvet, and made up a mood board with a bunch of samples I had, with a burgundy sofa at the center. Im very into it! Im sure youll make it awesome.

Love that last interior by Jeffrey Bilhuber. I always find it amazing when a ton of different colors can come together without looking like a gay pride parade haha! I’m one of those people who doesn’t have a strong love for red, but it is coming back in full force! I’m willing to bet the Cranberry will be the next Pantone color of the year!
