A Decorating To Do List for 2012

Remember when I used to keep monthly lists of things I wanted to do around the house? With all the traveling I just couldn’t keep up so I stopped but I miss them. I’m one of those people who always has a ton of lists: errands to run, things to look up later, restaurants to try, things to pack, etc. I have lists in my calendar, in my journals, on post-it’s and on scraps of paper all over the place. I love making them because they make me feel so much more organized and I also love the satisfaction of crossing items off.
I did a lot of organizing over the weekend and of course I made a bunch of lists and a lot of it had to do with the house. I wanted to be realistic since I already have a lot of traveling on the books for 2012 so I decided to make one big list for the year and see how that goes.  I’m sure the list will get amended throughout the year but here are the main things I’d like to get done this year.
- Get all the art lying around framed and hung.
- Finish* the family room – find a side table, find a basket/bin for firewood, maybe get a console.
- Finish* the master bedroom – reupholster the settee, refinish the coffee table, finish hanging art, find light for entry.
- Finish* master bath – find new shades for sconces, get new rug(s), find towel rack, hang art.
- Reorganize closet – install rack for scarves and hooks for bags, organize jewelry, hang art.
- Finish* guest room #1 -finish art wall, find better night stands.
- Finish* guest room #2 – get blinds, hang art.
- Finish* office – hang art and organize.
- Rearrange art studio and organize all art supplies.
- Do something with the laundry room – possibly wallpaper.
Oh my god, could this list be any longer? Writing it all down I realize it’s almost the entire house. What have I been doing with my time?? Well, at least the living room, dining room and kitchen are done! Â So, what are your decorating plans for this year?
*By now, you all know by “finsh” I mean just get it to the point where I’m happy with it. There will always be tweaking down the road.

OH, I am SO with you on number one! I have so many prints that need framing!

I was thinking about doing this and blogging about it! My house has so many blank walls and empty spaces it’s starting to drive me crazy!!! Living in a rental and not painting the walls is also getting to me!!! You always get a lot done, even with traveling!!! Can’t wait to see more of your home!

I started giggling the second I read the title to this post, I’ll admit it! Of the “here she goes again” variety–which I love because it may take you awhile but you always find the perfect things. It’s an awesome list.
Me? Find that d*mn chandelier once and for all for the living room, recover the chairs there too and find a light for the petite salon. Muuuch smaller than yours.

I vote for moving the master bedroom to #1. We all need to enjoy that special place.

I’m right there with you, Ally. I intend to post my to do’s as well, but my list is so long! There will have to be some prioritizing for sure.
Looking forward to seeing your to do’s as they are checked off the list!

Such a great list. Though it may seem overwhelming to list everything, I find lists keep me focused and goal-oriented. Can’t wait to see the final results of all of these projects!

I am a list maker as well. I’m going to be working off my master list from last year. A few items were crossed off but still lots to do!

That’s the thing…I once started making a similar list but was so overwhelmed with how much I wanted to change in my house (and the amount it was going to cost) that I sort of scrapped it! Now I have a list of just a few ‘must have items’ I’m always on the lookout for. When I find the right thing, I’ll know it!
Oh I started to do some work in the dressing room and quit because it was overwhelming. Now that the holidays are over, I can concentrate on spending a day or two in there . It is terribly hot here, 98º today, so hiding in my closet with the a/c is not punishment

Boy, that’s a long list indeed! Mine was rather long last year and did I get any of it done? Nope!
So this year I shortened the list. First up: paint my linen closet white inside and out, followed by my bedroom closet (both are unfinished, dark wood, our cottage is from the 1930s). Was supposed to do it new year’s weekend, but didn’t get to it… Oh, well, I still have 50 more weekends.
Here’s to all of us getting to cross off everything this year

I had to laugh at your definition of “finished” – because it’s exactly what I told my husband last week
My decorating resolutions:
- put together the gallery wall in the living room and buy new shelves, which will complete the living room.
- create a reading corner in the bedroom
- find the right console and pictures for the dining room
There’s more, I am sure, but these are the main ones!
