Hygge & West Wallpaper Giveaway

*This giveaway is now closed.*

I’m sure you all know Hygge & West, one of the coolest wallpaper companies around and one of my personal favorites. Well, today marks its three-year anniversary and I’m thrilled to be helping Christiana and Aimee celebrate!

To celebrate 3 years, they are giving away 3 rolls of wallpaper of your choice over 3 days on 3 different blogs. How cute and clever, right?

This giveaway is open to all followers of FTRB worldwide. To become a follower, just click on the “Join this Site” button above the smiling faces in the sidebar on the left. Then answer this question in the comments:

The closest translation for the Danish word hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is cozy, but it means so much more than that.  It means surrounding yourself with people and things you love, deeply appreciating what you have in the present, and finding joy in the smallest of moments. We want to learn more about, and be inspired by, the hygge in other people’s life, so where is the most cozy place you’ve traveled to and why?

For two more chances to win, head on over to Oh Joy and Style by Emily Henderson and answer the questions on their blogs. And as if that weren’t enough, H&W is also giving away some of their favorite bird items on their blog Picnics Under the Moon (how’s that for a cute blog name?) so don’t miss out on that either!

This giveaway is open for 3 days until 11:59PM PST on November 3rd. Good luck and happy anniversary, Hygge & West!

When I stood on Monet’s bridge over his water Lily pond I felt a huge sense of hygge . It was like being hugged by Monet himself. I loved France it has. Cozy place in my heart forever. Thanks for the chance:)

I rented an apartment on Ile St. Louis in Paris a few years ago, It was a converted mansion, one of the ones with the courtyards in the middle. Opening up the windows of the flat into the courtyard, where the noise of the city was completely drowned out felt totally peaceful, and yes, cozy. I was overcome with an incredible sense of well-being, which I think must have to do with hygge. It was wonderful.

Oh man, I was thinking and thinking on this cozy thing.. and I think I’d have to say the most cozy place I’ve been is my mom’s house! While I want to say something like a cottage in Cotswold (think ‘The Holiday’), there is no place in the world like home. And though I have my own home, my mom’s home is always so perfectly welcoming and Id love to go spend the night there just for the fun of it. There are no granma-kitsch items or super comfy old couches with quilts, but it’s my mom, and thats enough :)

  4. Sarah @ Maison Boheme

I love to visit my father’s home in Northern Scotland. Sitting in front of the fire on his overstuffed sofa, looking out at the wild North Sea while sipping tea and toeing the old hard wood floors with my socks is the coziest spot in the whole wide world.

  5. Traveling Mama

By far, the most hyggelige place we have ever traveled is to here, Denmark. Hygge truly is represented here and it has been such a joy to see the Danes define their own cozy word! After visiting here, we knew this was definitely the kind of place we would love to live and here we are!

  6. Keri

The coziest place I’ve traveled to is my mom’s summer place in Vermont. My husband and I were married there, and we like to go up in the fall, just the two of us, to snuggle in the quiet and make applesauce and watch the leaves fall.

  7. Melissa

By far the coziest destination I’ve experienced is a Christmas holiday at the Pelican Inn near San Francisco. It’s a small B&B that perfectly encapsulates an old English cottage complete with pub. It was completely magical; like time-traveling into a quaint and cozy story.

    amazing giveaway!
I’m a newlywed and a hygge moment was after a long day of moving and unpacking and cleaning, we sat on our new couch and felt like our home was finally to become our home.

  9. Krystal

I find comfort in the sentimental objects that I’ve incorporated into my home decor. I have a hand-painted canvas by my great-grandmother and a set of antlers from my grandfather. I have a stack of vintage art books displayed that were given to my by my great aunt. It’s items with meaning that make a home feel like a home and surround you with memories of those you love even in the smallest places.

  10. Liz

The coziest place I’ve traveled the past few years has got to be my childhood home. Returning to hang with my parents for holidays or long weekends always means surrounding myself with people I love, and memories from earlier years. I’ll be sad to see it go when they eventually sell it, but until then plan on taking advantage of all the hygge possible!

One of the coziest places I’ve traveled recently was the Blue ridge mountains for the wedding of some close friends. My boyfriend and I found a tiny rental property in town and went early to spend some time relaxing. By the time the wedding happened we had to wish the bride and groom congratulations AND thank them for giving us an excuse for the perfect weekend getaway!

  12. kat

It’s hard to pick, but I’d have to say either Ireland or Israel … both places, in very different ways, were just incredibly welcoming, to the point where it felt like every single person we met was just universally friendly and open.

  13. Lia

It’s officially been fall for a few weeks now, my favorite season, but for the first time the other morning, it “smelled” like fall – fallen leaves, firewood burning, crisp air. Aaaah. I love moments like that. Cozy.

  14. beth

My grandmother’s house has a cozy den with a fireplace and lots of mismatched hand-knitted afghans lying around. I love going there.

  15. katie evans

recently, my boyfriend and i painted a small wall in our kitchen with black chalkboard paint. a few times now, i have come home from work to a sweet little love note written to me in colorful chalk. it’s a small gesture that gets me every time :)

  16. Beks

We recently recarpeted the basement. It’s still pretty cold, so we added a small space heater and voila, it’s become our go to place for movies on rainy days, reading old and new books, napping with our daughter and just to cuddle.

  17. Cate

A short drive out of the city to camp. Love wrapping up in blankets next to a campfire with my favorite people.

  18. Christine

Ooh, most cozy place? Hmm. I’d have to say my uncle’s cottage in Muskoka (northern Ontario, Canada) during the holidays. There is nothing better than coming in from a walk on the frozen lake to a hot chocolate in front of the fire, looking out at the snowy landscape!

  19. Sam V.

Most cozy place I have ever traveled would have to be Florence Italy in the countryside.. It was such a lovely trip that I will cherish forever.

  20. julie s

The coziest place I’ve traveled to is Whistler, BC. There are so many great spots to curl up in front of a fire with a warm drink and watch the beautiful snow covered (and majestic) surroundings!

  21. Margaret

I saw my parents last weekend and we had a simple brunch where we chatted like old friends. Then we walked around, taking in the scenery and appreciating the beauty in silence, with an implicit understanding between us as the wind whipped through our hair and the sun cast an orange light on the world below us. It was an unforgettable moment.

  22. Christina D.

I think one of the most cozy places I have been to was Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood, Oregon. And it was in July! In summertime, being able to snow on the ground for this used to be Floridian gal was awesome! I hadn’t seen snow like that since I was a toddler. The lodge itself was so cozy inside, even for just a day visit.

The most cozy place I traveled to recently was a cabin in yosemite with our extended family. Walks in the woods, warm drinks and long meals shared inside. It was super cozy in our little cabin, all together.

  24. laura

Well.. as i’m mexican tomorrow is the “dia de muertos” that is the day when your beloved that are gone come to visit family, in this day we eath the favorite things of that persons, since my mom passed away 2 years ago, last weekend my brother, dady and I fulled the house with her favorite flowers and prepare her favorite dinner .. it was so nice be with family remembering mom!…

  25. Margaret

I forgot to say–this was in Caramel, California… in my opinion one of the most beautiful places on the West Coast!

  26. Caro

The coziest place I have ever traveled is Germany in the wintertime. The streets are full of Weihnachtsmärkte (Christmas Market) vendors selling wooden toys, hanging up sparkling glass ornaments, and cooking delicious treats. String lights twinkle above and the air is full of gingerbread, anise and chocolate.

  27. Natalie Moore

It was only hours after I had taken my baby home from the hospital for the sixth time in his short four months of life. He was still severely medicated from the most recent heart surgery he had undergone. The tears had finally stopped, both his and mine, daddy had stepped outside to catch a little air himself. Baby boy and I lay in the big bed face to face resting off the pain. And right then baby boy rested his sweet hand on my cheek. Whether he knew it or not he told me everything was going to be alright. I may have needed him more than he needed me. It was perfect.

  28. sam yi

    Hmm..

One cozy small but joyful moment was when my soon-to-be husband took me out to Montauk memorial day weekend and took me to the light house that I have been wanting to visit from 2 year prior. Once we got there he took us to this small alcove of a pier facing the beach– and he gave the most awkward, quick, and nervous proposal ever. But it was most perfect because it was everything that I could ask for. (:

  29. Rachael

Coziness to me is snuggling up in the winter with the people you love and a warm cup of coffee. Simple but true, the coziest place I travel to is my parents house on Christmas!

  30. Lauren E. E.

The Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport, Oregon, on a stormy winter weekend. The author-inspired rooms, the cozy library with a fireplace, the yummy restaurant … all there to enjoy while it blustered outside and the waves crashed against the shore … heaven.

  31. amy

My parents’ house in San Diego is always the most cozy place I travel to. It’s the home where I grew up and we have such great memories from living there!

  32. Zivile Januleviciute

Once I travelled to Romania, and I ended up in a small town, which seemed stuck in time, people were living their little lives, moving, greeting everybody. It was a very wondeful warm experience.

  33. Liza

The coziest place I have visited is my grandmothers home. Every time I get to go visit her it reminds me of the countless days spent around the piano, and it never changes. It’s just how it was the last I’ve been there regardless of how long it’s been since I was there last.

  34. Melanie

The coziest place that I’ve traveled to is Philadelphia. I loved the intimacy of walking around Rittenhouse Square, grabbing a croissant and a coffee.

  35. Amber C

Our family trip to Mexico last winter was a week filled with hygee moments. We had to jobs: play and eat. Having all the other “stuff” taken care of gave my husband and I the freedom to play and soak up every minute with our two girls.

  36. Steph

Hmm…should I give this secret away? :) When I really, really need a break, I plan a trip to the Peak District, in the UK, and stay at a super cozy bed & breakfast. I love the homey, cozy feel of the room and the breakfast in the morning, and it’s such a relaxing place to “press pause” on the stresses of every day life. :)

  37. Tracy A.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL. My husband and I have made it down there yearly for a while now and it’s just so easy, happy and familiar. Whether eating at our favorite take-out place or reenacting scenes from Baywatch, it’s the coziest, happiest place around.

  38. Lindsay I

My most recent hygge moment that I’ll never forget is sitting in my bed with my sister surrounded by lit candles, and covered in mountains of blankets because we still didn’t have power or heat from the snow storm that tore through NJ over the weekend. We were bundled up, trying to stay warm, and listening to the same wonderfully cheesy 70’s love song over and over again. It’s been a while since I’ve laughed so hard. It really is the little things in life that make everything worthwhile.

  39. Jessica

The smoky mountains in Tennessee! I’m a flatbilly and seeing all those beautiful mountains was so wonderful. I loved how secluded I felt and will definitely be back.

  40. Courtney

The most cozy place I ever traveled to was my aunt in-law’s home in a quiet community outside of Ocean City. Her house is beautifully decorated, right on an inlet, and so relaxing. We go every summer with the whole family and always have such a wonderful time.

For sure the most cozy travel is our ski vacation in Whistler. Sounds odd but it’s after a day of skiing that we love to do a hot tub and then light a fire. can’t get more cozy than that. I am so obsessed with this wallpaper company and check out their site almost daily. I’m so glad to know the proper pronunciation:)

  42. Danielle T.

The coziest place I’ve traveled to would be to see my bestie on the east coast. We had to share a bed together, and it was so nice being back with her again!

  43. Kim Moore

The coziest place I’ve traveled to is Kauai on Polihale Beach with my new husband. We had a picnic and cozied up on a blanket on the beach and watched the sunset.

  44. Sarah

My daughter who’s almost 2 caught a stomach bug this past weekend and spent the majority of it vomiting. By Sunday night I had caught it too and the both of us ended up home sick for Halloween. But despite being sick it was wonderful spending time away from work and school just being together cuddling on the sofa and eating soup. Needless to say last weekend was pretty cozy and joyful for us.

  45. Lisa F.

Carmel Beach, CA is the most deliciously cozy place – the gorgeous beach, combined with the cool breeze and cold surf makes you just want to snuggle in a loved one’s arms.

  46. Erin Macaluso

My husband and I got married back in April and went to the south of France for our honeymoon. We stayed in Cassis a few nights at this wonderful bed and breakfast tucked in the hills and vineyards of South of France. We would wake up every morning to be treated to a breakfast of croissants, eggs, fresh fruit, cheese and coffee. It was such a warm cozy feeling being there!

  47. Tabatha

The coziest place I’ve ever been was actually a cabin on Lake Superior in Michigan. I’m not one usually for a lack of amenities, but this place, owned by an old boyfriend’s family, had history of being passed down from generation to the next. Everything was a short walk away, the landscape was beautiful, and nothing could beat cuddling up under a handmade quilt near the fireplace when the summer nights turned chilly. I hope to find another place like that again, someday.

a lodge with a good fireplace in the winter– a wood fire is the ultimate in cozy after tromping around outdoors all day in the snow!

  49. Haley

My husband and I cozied up at a friend’s cottage on Cape Cod over the last decent (as in, not freezing) weekend of Autumn. Despite the cold winds, we warmed up with clam chowder, a roaring fireplace, and hot apple cider with bourbon. A perfect weekend!

  50. Vanessa

The one thing that comes to mind is actually a hostel I stayed in overlooking Lake Como in Italy. The table on the balcony had the most gorgeous view. With a delicious cup of coffee and a chocolate croissant, I knew I was in the perfect place!

  51. Julie Richard

My Hygge moment is when both my son and daughter come to wake me and my husband up in the morning. It just lovely to all cuddle up in bed together chatting about the day ahead and cuddling up and taking time for each other before the craziness of our busy day begins. xx

  52. Lori L.

My hygge would have to be on a Saturday morning watching old cartoons with our daughter drinking a big old cup of coffee!

  53. Amy Seibert

My family cottage! Bought by my grandfather more than 70 years ago, the family cottage has been the central gathering space for the extended family for as long as I’ve been alive (I was 9 days old the first time I was there). It’s now more than 8 hrs away from home for me, but every summer and fall we make the trek back to my all time favourite cozy travel destination. What I wouldn’t give to be there by the fire, wrapped in a big blanket today!

  54. Lindsay

The coziest place I’ve traveled to, without a doubt, is Ireland. The warmth of the people, peat fires, and all of the sheep make me want to hop on a plane right now!

The most coziest place i’ve traveled to would have to be Sicily, because I have a lot of family there that I don’t get to see very often. I love getting in touch with my roots and spending time with my family while visiting!

  56. Heidi Stephens

A cozy little pub in the Irish coastal village of Fanore, after an adventurous trip with the extended family. Good food, great company, a spectacular view and a memory forever.

  57. Hannah

The coziest place I have travelled to would be the private estate that my husband and I were married at (and honeymooned at) in the Adirondacks in upstate NY. Completely enclosed by woods, massive black lakes, totally silent, fireplaces galore, and all to ourselves… pure bliss.

  58. Sara Stoner

I travel all the time for work, but hands down the coziest place to visit is my childhood home. Lots of memories, super comfy couches, too many pets, and of course, friends and family – it doesn’t get much cozier than that!

coziest trips are always snow trips! we had a great weekend in shaver lake, ca last year after a big snowfall with fires in fireplaces and mugs of hot chocolate.

The coziest vacation place was our rental honeymoon apartment in Paris. It was so tiny and perfect and I never wanted to get out of bed. Even though Paris is amazing, half the fun was hitting up a fromagerie & boulangerie and going back to the apartment to eat cheese in bed. Perfect!

  61. gritt

The most coziest place for me is probably traveling back home to Berlin/ Germany. Whenever I return to my parents home, I feel safe and so many precious memories return that I want to get lost in the past sometimes.

  62. Tiffany

I’m 9 months pregnant right now, so i guess the little one is feeling very cozy inside. But I love the closeness we have right now, it’s like the ultimate snuggle.

  63. Sabrina

The coziest place I’ve traveled to is my parents’ cottage in the North Carolina mountains. It’s nothing fancy, but from first frost until the weekend Spring finally arrives, there’s a fire in the fireplace, bread baking in the outdoor oven, and hot coffee, tea, or cider always brewing any weekend they’re up there. There are piles of books in every nook, rocking chairs for afternoons on the porch, and bunks for napping to the sound of a burbling creek. Best of all, there’s that cozy feeling of familiarity–being surrounded by people who have loved you since you were born. What’s better than that?

The most cozy place I have traveled to is Pacific Grove, California. It’s cozy because all of the houses by the beach are teeny teeny tiny. I stayed in a 2-bedroom, 700 SF cottage by the beach with my parents, husband and baby daughter. The beach and the downtown are within a few blocks of each other so you can walk anywhere.

The coziest place I’ve ever travelled is to Cambridge, England. My husband and I lived there while he studied at Cambridge and the history, architecture, quaint ambiance, calm waters of the river, and romance of it all enchanted me. We had an adventure together, falling in love with the city and more in love with each other.

  69. greg

My fiance and I have been (and still are) in a long-distance relationship, so one habit we’ve fallen into (to add a touch of romance) is letter-writing. Mostly stray thoughts or daydreams. Anyway, our hygge moments come on days we get a little love in the mail. We both like to wait til after work, when we can change into wrinkly pj’s and call each other the moment we finish reading…

Something about Prague just made me feel at home. I’m not sure if it was the old buildings or the deeply satisfying food or the warmth of the people but it sure gave me a coziness and joy I will never forget.

  71. K Lee

The coziest place I visited was Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The first time I went there it just felt like I belonged there. The people were warm and friendly, the music and culture were rich and the scenery could take my breath away at every turn. There are endless trails, secret scenic spots, unbelievable beaches, and so much unexplored landscapes. I love it so much that I lived there for 5 years and every day was just as cozy as the first day I arrived.

  72. Minna S.

My family & I will be moving across the states in about 2 weeks. We have already finished packing, which includes our living room furniture. A cozy, joyful moment we’ve had lately is just sitting the middle of the room, with nothing around, playing board games.

  73. julia grandegger

the most cozy place i´ve been to was a B&B in a small village in south-west of England… well, i can´t remember the name of the place but everything was decorated and seemed to belong where it was laid.
Plus: there was a silver string hanging from the cieling next to the bed, to turn of the lights without getting out of the cozy bed.

  74. MK

Bali, Indonesia is cozy to me. I visited my now husband there when we were dating long distance. He took me to this incredible restaurant nestled in the midst of lush green rice paddies, and we marveled at the views and chance to finally be reunited. It was such a sweet moment to share together, knowing that we wouldn’t have to live apart for much longer. That simple moment together was enough to remind us of what was ahead, an worth waiting for.

  75. mika

what makes my home the most cozy are the things that remind me of my family and friends. photos of my grandparents, my grandma’s blanket, photos of happy days with friends, postcards from my brother, photos taken on days i felt inspired, a my little bunnies ring holder that holds my engagement ring at nighttime. :)

  76. Jacqueline

My cozy place is in Ireland. I feel connected and peaceful when I am there. It’s rugged, beautiful and spiritual all at the same time.

  77. Kate Klassen

What a wonderful question…My Hygge moments are when the days get shorter and its cool and breezy outside, the house smells like warm apples and spices, dinner simmering away in the oven. Snuggly sweaters, cozy blankies and crackling fires warm the chills, while hubby and I sit on the loveseat reading and our daughter is at the coffee table doing her homework yelling at our puppy (a half pug & half chihuahua mashup) to stop biting her toes.

  78. Sarah Roads

For me it’s definitely having personal things in my home. Almost everything we have has a story…some much better than others. Everywhere we travel we bring home something to remember the trip by. Another thing is corks, we have a large glass jar in our kitchen that houses our corks (we look like major winos) On most of them we write the date and who we shared it with, where we were, etc. It’s a wonderful reminder of all we have to celebrate.

  79. Gabrielle

I was soaking in the hot tub during the middle of the day out in our backyard and noticed all these little yellow finches on the wires. They reminded my of my late grandmother who used to keep little bird like them. It was as if she was there with me. It made my feel so happy!

  80. Sina

My boyfriend and I have been living together for 2 years now, and it is pretty typical to get into routines with things- but we try to keep thigs entertaining and do things for each other that make each other know that we are always thinking of them and how much we love them- for instance; just the other day, we had our first frost, and he left for work about 3 minutes before I did, but took the time to scrape off both of our vehicles do I wouldn’t have to stand in the cold. It is the small things that I believe add up in relationships- friendships, intimate, family, etc.

  81. Julie

my grandmother’s home in rural taiwan. it’s still so simple and warm with little to distract you from the people around you

  82. Lydia

My family’s cabin in North Carolina is the coziest place I’ve ever traveled. The pine paneling, my grandmother’s rag rug on the floor and the big stone fire place make you want to curl up on the old sofa with a good book and a blanket and never leave.

  83. pangcha

The coziest place to travel to is to my older sister house/condo/apartment/rented room! haha Wherever she has lived, she has opened her place to us. No matter how big or how small, once we arrived we were greeted with open arms and the warmest hug! Older sisters are really mothers in disguse!

  84. Tran Nguyen

It’s always cozy when we go camping.. not because we’re being one with the outdoors.. but we get to snuggle up close in a tent or next to a firepit

  85. Candice

This is so cheeseball but the most cozy place I ever travel to is my aunt’s house in Moraga, CA. We have Thanksgiving there every year, even after she passed away. There isn’t anything particularly special about the place. It’s probably just that I associate it with her and her big booming laughter and her sly sarcastic looks. And then of course I associate it with Thanksgiving which makes my stomach feel cozy–and big. But her house always makes me think of family, spread out across three massive rooms. Just more people than seems possible to cram into a space, all playing games and eating and pretending like she knows how to make the best dish in the house or he’s the best poker player in the universe. That house is the sheer embodiment of my big loud family–here or passed on.

  86. Allison

Spending thanksgiving with my entire extended family at the beach a few years ago was a major hygge travel experience.

  87. claire kalbaugh

Cozy is cuddling up with the baby, my true love and best friend, and of course our giant dane, on a crisp Halloween evening, hot mug of cider in hand, tunes grooving, watching the flames dance in the fireplace late into the night. I was in the rocker with the little one, resisting putting him in his crib to selfishly stare in wonder and kiss on him just a bit longer. Daddy-O (still in costume) poured himself a whiskey, grabbed a peanut butter cup, and we smiled at each other thinking about how lucky we are to share this life together. The baby woke up and looked around half asleep, pointed at the big dane hogging the couch and said very clearly “dog”. My baby boy said his first word last night! Dog. I’ll never forget that moment.

  88. Emily

The most cozy place you’ve traveled to is, simply, home. I’ve been a lot of places that I LOVE but nothing describes “cozy” better than going home because that is the place most filled with Love, family, and friends.
