Another Peek of the Family Room
I moved a whole lot of things around the house this weekend and here’s a little peek of what I started in the family room:

I decided to make use of this dead space so I’m trying out a bunch of different things. There’s more to do but this is what it looks like for the moment. Please excuse the wrinkled slipcover and the pile of magazines about to topple. (I’m so behind in all my magazine reading!)

The mirror came from my dressing room which you may remember:

and the chest used to be in the master bedroom which you may also remember:

So you know what that means ….. these two spaces are getting tweaked too. The Tord Boontje curtain went down to my studio/office/storefront a while ago and there’s an art wall happening in this space which I also need to show you. It never ends – as you know!
I’m also still playing around with the mantle in the family room. I just gathered more of my white pottery so there’s a bigger grouping:
I just love a big group of white anything!
So what have you tweaked lately?

Love your changes. Your all white touches on your mantel are a perfect example of the post I did today, On En Masse!! great job!1 kathysue
I spy a fiddle leaf fig in the corner! LOVE! Can’t wait to see more of these transformations, your house looks stunning!
I just received a kilim rug for my kitchen floor. That’s my tweak! (although in all honesty I have been trying it everywhere around the house!)

Good eye, Gabrielle! I can’t believe I’ve kept it alive all this time!
Kilims are so great because they really can go anywhere. I’ve been thinking I want one for my kitchen too. You’ll have to show us where you end up putting yours.
After doing the rounds of the house, the kilim did end up in my kitchen! You’re right, they’re very versatile.

Beautiful! I adore that wooden chest with the fantastic hardware – what a unique piece. I love a white collection – also lovely on a dining table when not being used!

Thanks, Allison! That’s a family heirloom so it’s kind of special to me. And yes to a white collection on a dining table! I’ve got a small one going on in mine.
I love your white grouping of pottery. It all looks fantastic! xx

I love the change around. And your closet is amazing! Right now I’m trying to rearrange old art work in our living room /classroom and it’s not going very well. I’m trying to make it look modern with existing old paintings….sigh.

Love those little changes! It’s amazing what small rearranging can do to a home. xo
Such a great collection on the mantle & I’m completely inspired by the assemblages on the bureau/chest. I’m trying to work through an adaption of a “nook” that I want to use as extended closet space. For now.
Here’s where its at so far:

Um, yeah, I have tons of family heirlooms just like that. :O OH my, am I just green (not not eco, the other less attractive kind) especially because you have that PLUS a closet full of killer heels? Sigh. You put the ballerines at the top–you are my hero!
Ok, enough silliness–I love everything–the mirror, the Hermes porte monnaie, the books (I want the Bilhuber but you already made me get one new one that is so inspiring that I can’t bare to read it, it’s too much!) and of course the mantle. Whoohoo!
Heather in Arles’s last post…Perfect timing
The porte monnaie is actually from Maxim’s. But now that you mention it, it does have the same shape and look so let’s just pretend it is!
As for the heels, don’t let them fool you. They rarely leave the closet since most of the time, I’m schlepping junk all over town in Converse!
Such great natural light throughout! Ally, you really strike the perfect balance of light and dark elements. Love the rearranging…way to keep things fun and fresh.
I really love the trunk/mirror combo. Great job!

you have a beautiful home….love the chest, reminds me of the little treasure box I used to play with from grandma’s bedroom.
Ally, I always love how you style your home, Ms. Ally! The collection on the fire mantle looks fantastic! And all that natural light in your house – priceless.
Love to you,
Mon
Ally, love the way things are looking! Curious to know if the metal strapwork trunk is Korean? Working on a post about integrating Japanese wooden furniture into eclectic rooms – and I’d love to include this!
cheers!
Jacqueline
Hi, Jacqueline! Yes, it’s Korean. It’s been in my family for generations.
