The State of the Backyard

Can I just tell you how happy I am that fall is here?! Fall has always been my favorite season and now that I live in Atlanta that could not be more true. Being a Northerner, the summers here are brutal. Unbearable even. But the temperatures are dropping (there’s even a chill in the air in the mornings!) and I could not be happier. I want a hammock to lounge on outside just like in this photo!

We’ve had a lot of work done in our backyard over the summer (nothing fun – regrading, adding drainage, installing a patio, etc.) and now that it’s cooled off,  plants are being added. Lots and lots of plants.

So it’s kind of a mess right now but it should look really pretty when it’s all done. I’m also actually starting to think about hanging out outdoors again which can only mean one thing: new garden furniture!  Since the rest of the country is done with all that, I think I should be able to find some deals, don’t you? Let me know if you have any good sources.

Wishing you a lovely autumn weekend! (And a spring one to my friends in the southern hemisphere.)

    Hi Ally,

I’m excited for you as I love seeing a beautiful garden coming together. Can’t wait to see your ‘after’ photo’s.
Here in Australia we are in the first delicious weeks of Spring and spending more and more time in our garden. So lovely.

I’m doing really really good, the autumn is here so all the funky leather booths and jackets are back on. Still, we have sunny and warm days, it’s quire rare :)

I hear you about those warm Summers. I am a Northerner too and find the Summers a tad too long in Texas. The Fall, Winter, and Spring are divine. There has got to be a trade off.

    Love your Oak leaf Hydrangea.

You remind me of what our first year was like , living in Florida.
We arrived in January when it was 7º where we came from, and 70º in Florida.
But then the summer arrived and I spent it all, inside with the air conditioning, looking out at the garden. We had a hammock and loved it when we were able to use it. Beware of some sort of tiny little red mite that lives in trees and likes hammocks and loves to bite people.
We are just going into summer here, today is a wet chilly raining day. But I anticipate a summer much like yours .. Have fun in your new home .. I love moving into new homes :)
