Chair Options for the Garden

As I mentioned on Friday, I’m starting to turn my attention to the garden now that I can stand going outside again. It looks like we’ll need some new dining chairs (and probably a table too) since the old ones have taken a beating with all the rain and snow the last year. One option I’m considering is the classic Tolix.

I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember and I know they’re sturdy and comfortable too.

Don’t they look great in all of these gardens?
My second option is to just get a couple of benches:

I like that you can squeeze as many people on a bench as you need but it’s not the most convenient when you want to get up from the table if you’re wedged in between people.

The third option is to just get more French cafe chairs (which are what I have now).

You can never go wrong with cafe chairs as far as I’m concerned.

If you’re new to FTRB, you can see my chairs in this old post.
Shall we take a vote?

I love the Tolix chairs (and even posted a home tour of a friend’s apartment, where she uses them as dining chairs) but unfortunately my husband despises them! I think they’re really cool for injecting that rustic, industrial vibe into your garden decor:)
Tolix – they just look good and they’ll continue to look good even when they’re weathered.
We have benches and they’re great with little kids etc but they are a pain if you have to get up all the time.
Have fun finding the perfect setting. xx
Tolix cafe chairs are such classic pieces. You can’t go wrong with them. However, all of your choices are fantastic. Hmmmmm. This one is hard.

Oh definitely the Tolix, Ally! Benches, fun to smush everyone in but killer on your back, same for the café chairs–with the Tolix you can stay and stay and open up another bottle of wine under the stars…
I love tolix chairs – timeless and beautiful. The look of a bench is wonderful but the comfort of the tolix would win out for me!!
I definitely agree with Heather….benches are terrible, terrible on your back. Same with the most adorable French cafe chairs: cute to look at but no way to sit for an extended period! What about something with removable cushions? Much more comfortable… We had Brown & Jordan, with the webbing, for many many years. They were so comfortable and can take the winter weather!
What I have now are cafe chairs with removable cushions and they’re pretty comfortable to me. (I would use cushions with any of these.)
ooooh, I love all the options. especially the frenchie cafe chairs. SO romantic for a backyard!
we did benches on one side, chairs on the other…because we have so many kids around! benches are the best for them!
i like cafe chairs – they fold away during the winter!
benches benches!
Tolix- one of the most amazing chairs!
There’s just something lovely and picnic-y about a bench. So I’m going for that as my vote.

Well, I have done both Tolix (sitting on one right now) and benches. I love the friendliness of benches, as you say, you can always add one more. I have six Tolix in my breakfast area. We haul them outside for frequent gatherings around a dinner table. Truth is, you can’t go wrong with either… or both. Who is to say that combining chairs and benches are the wrong way to go?
Let us know what you decide.

Les toutes dernières qui apparaissent sur la photo me semblent parfaites.
gros bisous
Benches AND chairs of course. Maybe 2 kinds of chairs. Benches can put folks close together, or not. But you share a bench with somebody even if they are at other end. I like being able to store chairs out of the outdoor muck (leaves, pollen, birds, etc.),
At first I was going to vote benches but then another commenter said they were a pain if you had to get up a lot, which makes sense. So I vote Tolix, they look way more comfy then the cafe chairs. And like others have said they will weather well!
LOVE the 4th photo – under the twinkle lights – this is exactly what I would do in my yard – if I had one.
