Greenery Around the House

I thought you might want to see how my fiddle leaf figs are doing. By some miracle both are not only still alive but doing really well. Look how much they’ve grown! I’ve been keeping them in a very sunny corner, watering them 1-2 times a week and telling them how lovely they are in my sweetest voice and by golly, it’s doing the trick (even after leaving them unattended for a week).

With the figs doing so well, I decided to give herbs another go too. I saw this one-pot herb garden with rosemary, oregano and thyme at Trader Joe’s a couple of weeks ago and it just looked so pretty I brought one home. (The pot is just an old one I had lying around.) Only one sprig of thyme is still hanging on but the rest of it is doing fine. On another visit (I’m there a lot), they also had all these basil plants and it smelled so good I just had to get one. What’s better than a caprese salad for lunch in the summer, right?

I love having fresh herbs on hand and I’m planning on adding flat leaf parsely, cilantro and mint next. I saw some nice looking ones at Whole Foods right before I went on vacation so I need to go see if they still have them.

At this rate, I think I may muster up the courage to get a few more plants for the house like these.

Don’t you just love how much greenery can enhance a space?

welcome back. I was just wondering how your fig was doing and I thought I’d send you an e-mail to ask! I finally found one but chickened out on buying it. My LR has a northern face, so I don’t know if I have the right light. still love them, tho! donna

The figs look just wonderful! Congrats. I definitely agree that having green IN the house is such a nice look and feel. My huge plant is still up in our (still unsold) empty house : am trying to figure out a way to transport it down here! Poor thing: so lonely in that house now!

I love that you shared this post with us. So sweet.
I too am a little nervous around plants and have only managed to keep one single one alive over the years. Actually I have three but two of them live in our garden in big pots and kind of take care of themselves..

I love the inspiration pictures you shared. That top one (Martha) is fantastic and I love the layering, as well as that wonderful old terra cotta pot on the far right.

Big hugs from Sydney (for another two weeks, then the hugs will come from Sweden..!)

same boat! So I absolutely love that your plants are thriving. I think I may have to try something big like that.

I cracked up about your grocery store plants because I have been on a severe whole foods potted plant and herb kick. I cant go it there without leaving fully loaded up with plants…needless to say our grocery budget hasn’t been thrilled with me. But I love seeing spots of living green all around my home. AND some are still surviving a month later so I feel kind of badass

Figgy looks very happy indeed! So bright and tall….you’re a good plant mommy! I *just* planted some herbs in a pot outside…basil, parlsey and some cilantro. I already had a pot filled with rosemary, mint, and chives that has come back on it’s own for three years now so I thought I’d add to the mix, seperate pots though.
Your herbs look perfect in their earthy pot…and yes…maybe you should get a little meyer lemon tree (or two)….so pretty, and you obvioulsy have the touch now!

that is wonderful..it sure takes some effort to keep them happy and healthy!! We have a garden full of plants( no herbs as yet)..takes a full-time gardener to care for them…but nothing compares to the sea of green that greets our eyes from every room of our house..I am inspired by your post to plant some herbs as well..thanks for sharing..have a lovely day..do visit my blog when you have a moment.. xx meenal

I’ve been looking for a fig tree. I guess other folks have the same idea cause all the good looking ones are gone from the places I’ve been looking.
