The Gray Paint Search Is Over

So you know how I have been trying to find the perfect gray paint for my sideboard? Well, several people emailed and commented that I should look into Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. So I did and I was sold! Thank you to all of you for the recommendation!
Not to be confused with chalkboard paint, it’s a paint specifically made for painting furniture (and floors) and get this: there’s no need to prime or prep the surface in any way! Really! When I read that, I immediately found a distributor and placed an order.

They arrived yesterday and as you can see, the cans got all dented but no biggie; I think the paint is fine. I ordered “Paris Grey” which has a slight blue undertone (which is what I wanted):

I also ordered an “Old White” because you are supposed to be able to mix it with any of her colors:

I want to experiment with mixing to see what shades of gray I can come up with.
I also ordered the clear wax which will go over the paint to protect it:

It also got jostled and was leaking a little bit when it arrived but hopefully, the wax is okay.
So, guess what I’m doing this weekend? What about you? Do you have any projects planned? Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Monday with a progress report!

the paris gray looks wonderful. let us know how it goes!
I’m with the first comment, I love that Paris Grey. Good luck!
Have fun this weekend, Ally. It is going to be beautiful! THIS I can’t wait to see!
Hugs, Mon
Ahh never heard of this brand, but if you can cut out a whole priming and preparing step- i’m in! Genius! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
LOVE the Paris Grey! I know it’s going to look amazing when you’re done. Happy Weekend!
Ooohh ! I’ve been wanting to try Anne Sloan Chalk paint ever since I started following the blog Primitive & Proper. She’s used this paint on numerous pieces. The finished looked is beautiful !
We’re you able to find a local source in Atlanta or did you order online from The Southern Institute of Faux Finishing? Any information from where you ordered will be very helpful !
Good luck with your project this weekend.. Can’t wait to see the Paris Grey on your sideboard. Hope we get a step by step instructional on the transformation. That’s the color I want to do for my french buffet !
Just LOVE your blog…
Betsy
Hi and thanks for stopping by! I ordered from Periwinkle Studio in NC – I figured it was the closest. If you’re local, I think any of the vendors in the region will have the same turnaround time. You probably saw them all here: http://www.anniesloan.com/acatalog/North_American_Stockists.html
I’m not familiar with this brand either but can’t wait to see how it turns out!!
I’ve never heard of it…so happy your shared your recommendation!
Lots of little kid birthday parties and prepping to leave for Blogfest 2011!

So funny how products make the rounds in the blogworld. I just recently heard about Annie Sloan’s paint from Rhoda at Southern Hospitality. Now you and Sherry are both using it as well! I can’t wait to see your gray color.
Heidi and I are refurbishing 2 garage sale chairs with Annie Sloan’s white as well. I’ll let you know how ours turn out!
Have a great weekend!

I found my perfect gray, and I love it.
So excited to hear and see how this turns out! I’m not familiar at all with chalk paint and am so curious about the look and feel and process. Good luck!!
chalk paint ives such a lovely finish, i’m sure it will look sensational.
i looked through the swatches first and thought, i’d go with Paris Grey, i like your choices! jx
I’ll be interested to hear how you find it in terms of the application of it too – great that you don’t need to prime or undercoat
Can’t wait to sees hour mix of color and your final painted piece! The awesome thing is that you can’t paint it all over again if you don’t love it…no harm done! I just added a coat of lime wax to a table that I over darkened…and now I love it!
Xo,
Linsey
Im interested to see the end result! Would like to know more about this paint that doesn’t need priming, that would save so much time, and when you are excited to see your piece finished, its great!
Will a can last me through several large pieces? How many did you use on the sideboard?
