Dining Room Light Found!

www.fromtherightbank.com

My year-long search for a dining room chandelier is finally over! When I went to Circa to get the sconces for the family room I saw this Barbara Barry Bowmont chandelier (on sale) and that was that. The size, color and clean lines are just perfect for the room.

I was *this* close to going for the Jean de Merry light I posted about last month but in the end I was too chicken to make such a big commitment. Specifically, I was worried that 1) someone would knock it off and 2) it would start turning up everywhere. We all have those things that just drive us bonkers. For me, it’s those two things. The second thing can’t always be avoided, especially these days when everything is transmitted at warp speed but it still drives me insane.

Do you care if things in your home are seen in a lot of other homes? And how do you feel about knockoffs? Have you ever stopped yourself from getting a high priced item because you were afraid it was going to get knocked off? I’d love to know what you think so please share!

I guess the thing about high pricing is that if the price is for good quality rather than low quality plus pricey branding, it can’t be made cheaper without lowering the standard, in which case the one you buy will always be better. Your choice is lovely – beautiful simple lines and an elegant swoop.

I think if you find something that appeals to you visually and you think it will add to your home, you should buy it– if you can afford it. Objects are just objects. We apply value, meaning and emotion to them. That being said, I have fallen in love with vintage Swedish tea cups, a Baker table, a knock-off chandelier and a Calvin Klein rug all in the last week! I bought the knock-off chandelier. The internet provides countless sources of information and inspiration. I find your sense of style inspirational, it gives me a new perspective on what can be done. Your home is truly yours.

    very sexy! Love that chandelier!!
I buy originals if I love them, and knock offs don’t like them and I don’t buy them.
I love my Brno Chairs, Le Corbusier LC3 Lounge chair and my Marcel Breuer’s Laccio tables. I have saved and purchased them slowly but worth every penny.
I hope to have an egg chair soon!

I can’t wait to see it in your dining room, I remember you and I emailing about a fixture a LONG ways back. It is gorgeous…and yes, sometimes you fall in love with something and then it is everywhere. Case in point, my beloved Thomas Paul Aviary Print! Janell

I don’t mind buying something that might get knocked off (case in point: my Ghost chairs), but I do hate it when I start to see something everywhere. I am absolutely ready to take down my Ikea Maskros pendant because I’ve seen it one too many places–and I should have anticipated it with that one, because really there are no other HUGE statement chadeliers for $89 unless you get really lucky thrifting.

Also. I avoided baby names that had been given to any celebrity children with the idea that people are sheep and would copy the celebrities and then, boom! There are 52 “violets” in the first grade. Seems like the same thing you’re taking about.

Oh. And that fixture is beautiful.

Love your choice! I don’t get too worried about it, I just go with what I love. I recently purchased those hicks pendant lights for my kitchen in my new house-which I have seen everywhere over and over and still just loved and so went ahead with purchasing them!

Those are awesome and I agree that there are some things that no matter how many times you see it, you just love and have to have. I have a few of those too. :)

So fabulous, just like everything Barbara Barry!

Fabrics really bug me when I start seeing them everywhere. It is so hard to have anything unique for very long any more.

Missed seeing you today at Nicholas House. Hope to see you tomorrow!

I know what you mean, I think for me too is when I really do love something, and I’ve loved it for a long time and have seen it everywhere, I’m worried that it’s become too trendy and will therefore be outdated before I know it. Annoying that it keeps me from buying the things I love!
