I Don’t Have a Princess Complex, I Just Really Love Crowns

I’ve always had a thing for crowns. I love all the beautiful styles and the history they evoke. I’m sure that the fact that they are frequently found in Swedish design has something to do with it too. So while I loathe the idea of accumulating more stuff, I’ve been thinking about starting a collection. To start off, I just found the this one at a local antique mall.

While there are exquisite antique crowns that are real treasures like this $2,050 one from Source:

I’m thinking about a collection that’s just for fun and not too serious or costly with pieces like this:

$96 from RianRae

and this:

£24.67 from My Mirrors.

Crowns have definitely become popular over the last couple of years and while they haven’t been done to death (yet) I’m afraid that day will come. But trends come and go so quickly these days, that’s true for just about anything. So I’m not going to worry about it and just do what I like.

The ones above and below are from a wholesaler and there were no published prices so I have no idea if they would fit into my “just for fun” collection but I really love them.

So, have you seen any cool crowns around lately?

Yes, http://www.ballarddesigns.com has some wooden ones (on sale for $55) and metal ones I have been eying for a while as well as some cool pillows. You might have luck at their backrooms on DeFoor in ATL & on Holcomb Bridge in Roswell. I miss living in Atlanta!

Ally, I won’t say I have a collection, but I have a few vintage chalkware Infants of Prague, which I really, really love. Most have a crown that is attached. But, I have seen larger ones (mine are fairly small) that come with removable crowns. Sometimes you can find those in antique shops or maybe on e-bay. Those would make a really unique collection. I need to do a post on my Infants of Prague some day…

    great post…

OH Ally! thanks for your comment! i’m as happy about you dropping by as you were about getting a mention in the Lonny article! I was swooning over that apt – it’s on my dream list!

These crowns look pretty fancy- i can’t wait to see how you will put them together in your place!

I’ve been collecting crown images for card making for a few years now and it’s been neat seeing them become more and more popular…yet still “not over done”. I might have to focus on those images now. I love what you’ve shown here, the antique ones are so beautiful and very regal, they’d make for a fabulous collection!
