What Do You Do When Your Office Is Finally Finished?

That depends. If you’re a normal sane person, you kick back and enjoy your new space. But if you’re me, you decide to move the entire office to another part of the house. Yup, I’m moving it to what is currently the media room in the basement. At first I thought it was just one of the many crazy ideas that come and go but the more I thought I about it, the more sense it made. First, it’s much bigger. Second, it would be next to my art studio (which will be convenient when I’m in one room and need supplies from the other). Third, as a media room that room almost never gets used.
So before the big move, I thought I’d do a recap of what went down in the current office.
First, I replaced the existing boob light with this yellow one. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this photo was blogged by HGTV.com:

I started an inspiration wall of images just pinned to the wall:

Then made a proper inspiration board from homasote:

On the wall in place of the old wall went some of my travel photos and posters:

Shelves were filled with books and magazines:

It was all good while it lasted.
But I have big plans for the new office space and will be telling you all about it very soon. Do you think I’m crazy? You can be honest . . .

Haha! You are funny and a dear!
I am all for it (and I am looking forward to your new, great ideas) – the question is what does Mr. Huz say?
A warm hug, Mon

I share my Home Office with MOTH. I will never post on it because Blogger would strike me off for using inflammatory language. It is a cross I must bear until we have renovated the 3rd bedroom & then I’M OUT OF HERE & into that room alone! Home Office spaces are very important, looks like yours will be gorgeous in every way dear Ally.

Oh no, I’m going to finish my office soon and I have a feeling I’m doing it all over again…

I don’t think you;re crazy. You have good, valid reasons. Just one question, though: Won’t you miss the daylight?

no you are not crazy BUT my only question is how much natural light does the media room get? Or doesn’t it matter? Is it a basement but not really a basement? So many questions. Love the orange and yellow together in those shots. xoxo
mine is done, and has been..but right when i get done, i want to do it all over again.

No. I just did the same thing. Made this lovely work space upstairs then just moved it to the basement. Just artistic, not crazy!

Too funny but I can totally relate! I think it makes sense to be close to your art studio though… Does the media room get a lot of natural light? I love how bright and sunny your current office is!

No…not in my book! A year after completing my space it is in the process of being moved. To where I am not entirely sure, so if you have a space in mind you are ahead of the game. I’ll all for moving things around…a lot!

Jane and Chedva: It’s a walk-out basement so there is enough natural light to keep me happy.

You are a girl after my own heart. Let’s start a serial re-doer club.
Brilliant! And this will just give us more eye candy to drool over while you work your magic.
That orange is killing me.
Of course, but aren’t we all?! Never satisfied, always designing–part obsession, but all fun. Enjoy, and can’t wait to see the new space!

I don’t think you are crazy! I moved my office I think 3 times at my old house. The house before that I painted that office like 5 times!!! I love decorating office spaces, but seem to always change them. It sounds like you are making the right choice!!!
Can’t wait to see it!

The “boob light” comment is cracking me up! I have those in my studio and have always wanted to replace them, but they are in the oddest places (which means I can’t replace them with chandeliers or lanterns), so I’m still stuck with the “boob lights.” Never thought to call them that, but I know exactly what you mean!
Thanks for the laugh,
Linsey

I read somewhere about designers who were planning a college campus. They did not make any paved paths. They waited a year to see where the grass was dying from being walked on, and that’s where they built the walkways.
Sometimes you don’t know what’s going to work until you’ve lived in the space awhile.

p.s. pretty often after I submit a comment, a bug or something opens about 50 Internet Explorer windows of the same page I just commented on. Just letting you know in case it is happening to other people.
