Stumpy

I’ve been kind of loving the look of tree stumps as side tables or seating.

And I guess I’m not the only one. West Elm is even selling them now:

So a part of me is over it. But a part of me also thinks it’s a great way to add a natural element that is also really functional. What do you think?

I think they look great-
I have a set of stumps which I use at seating around my backyard fire pit.
I wrote a post about my new seating here:

The more weathered they get the better they look!
I can’t believe West Elm is SELLING them-

love it as a side table (I'm all about comfort for seating!) will write you later and fill you in. So glad you had fun.
I love them too. I saved a couple of stumps when I had a tree to fall in my backyard a while back. I'm not ready to use them yet so they sit out back until then.

I think they are fine…as long as you found them. But BUYING them?! Not so much.
I love them, but do think there is a knack to using/displaying them – love the second picture.

In Sweden they have been around for as long as I remember but the recent trend may be stretching our patience a little..
That said, I still love them and came across some that had been sprayed in silver and gold the other day. They looked amazing!
Hoping you are well my dear!
Am in Sweden as I am typing this and am having a great time!

I love the natural element they provide in a room. I'm also loving this gold version:

They would look great in my imaginary mountain house…

I agree with finding them or reclaiming them but not selling them. I like natural elements in my home too. ps: i have like 100s of these from when we had to chop off a tree so if you are in the area, you are welcome to a few.
how was your trip ally? i need recommendations..

I agree Manvi and I think that would be great to make back some of the money you spend to cut the tree down! Sell them to local designers

They definitely add an organic element to a room. However, i'm not sure if i'd actually purchase them though…would probably purchase a Platner side table instead:-). XX
I still like them! Love the gold – maybe I'll do that to mine when I get tired of it
Hopefully they'll become more of a classic than an overdone trend since they are such and easy, lovely way to bring in a natural element to a room.
I agree with all of you about not buying one – unless it was from one of these wood carving guys who you can find off of highways around here.
Ren: Thanks for the link. Those are gorgeous!
mydesignchic: In mine too.
Christiana: That's my concern too – that now that they've gone mainstream, they're going to be overdone. I hope not!
manvi: Next time I'm up that way, I may have to swing by for one.
Your tips are coming soon.
Ah, Ally, I have been planning a post on these! Stumpy…love it! I have a collection of wood slab pieces–not so much a stump. But I love the stump look–especially in unexpected finishes. What about a neon bright? A classic in my book.
Looking forward to some pancakes…

I like the really rustic looking ones. Darn it how West Elm makes it both easy, affordable AND played out! Guess you can't have it all.
In a grouping they are especially pretty.

And I also found Viva Terra does a nice square one that's on sale now http://www.vivaterra.com/pls/enetrixp/!stmenu_tem…
But still, they are expensive for what they are, ya know.

I'm always in favor of bringing nature in! But I like them as an accent table, not really to sit on.
