Guest Blogger: Ticklish From a Distance
Hello From The Right Bank readers! It is Gillian of Ticklish From A Distance and I am thrilled that Ally asked me over to chat today.
Being that Ally is all about individual style, it got me thinking about home vs. design-the reality that real life can sometimes gets in the way of delicious design. So annoying. There are many items I would LOVE to live with daily that just don’t make sense, for me, in a home full of kids. Sure, I incorporate those kinds of whims in smaller ways, I don’t deny myself the pleasure, but I am reasonable about what items I can live without in a room. There are many pieces that are amazing, but whose presence would cause me my sanity at this stage in my life. Make sense? Fortunately, the one thing I love most works in all homes, big and small, in any stage of your life. Books.

Great function, great look and great to share. What is one item you cannot do without in your home? Thanks for having me, Ally!

Love the pictures and I love books as well…. ones that I have read of course. It makes it so personal and beautiful to display them.
Thank you

So true. Just a few books or a whole bookcase of books can make a space feel instantly more welcoming and cosy.

…"a home without books is like a man without a soul"… amen to that!
Lovely post, Gillian! The books on the spiral staircase are a great look – a perfect blend of aesthetics and enthusiasm.

You know you and I are on the same page when it comes to books, dearie! I love that last image of Schuyler Samperton's home. It just epitomizes the warmth and welcome of a house full of books.
I never get tired of looking at books. I could curl up in that window seat for hours.

So true, which is why this is such a great post! A home without books…can't even imagine it!

Books are my weakness, too! I love the first picture, with all the books on the stairs. We live with two cats, so our books (and fragile ornaments!) live in cabinet with glass doors. Easier to do the dusting, too

ooooh! love all the photos you included! I love displaying books too – especially in uneven piles, and interspaced with knick knacks and framed photographs.
Aside from books, one item I cannot do without is one comfy chair to curl up in… with one of the fabulous books I have on display

AMEN to the books! What a great way to add your own personal character. I know that when I visit a new room I'm always attracted to the books. The curious side of me is dying to know what titles live on your shelves
Oh, I'm all about the books! You're right: they work anywhere and everywhere, at any stage of life. They're completely essential to my own happiness. Even my office at work features a bookcase shaped like a London telephone booth (yes!), filled with many of my favorites. You know, in case I can whip open a novel on the job. (Never, but I like having options.)
