We Will Miss You, Marija

Yesterday I learned that we lost Marija, the lovely blogger behind Holding Court, this past weekend. She was visiting Atlanta with a friend and was driving back home to Chicago when she was killed in a car accident. I’m shocked and so devastated for her family.

Marija was one of the most supportive and genuine bloggers in our community. I considered her a friend in the blogging world where friendships can often be tricky. I know many others did too. She had a kind word for everyone and was always generous with her knowledge and time. (She was going to be a guest blogger here next month.) I’m even more heartbroken because we had been emailing each other just the day before, trying to get together before she left Atlanta. We just missed each other. And now she’s gone.

She leaves behind a devoted husband and two beautiful, young children. Please keep them in your thoughts. If you’d like to send your condolences, please go to Holding Court where her husband Cory has written a beautiful tribute.

We will miss you so much, Marija.

After reading Charlotte's devastation I popped over to see the blog not really realizing that this lovely sounding woman had actually died. It is very rare to read such a shocking thing in blog land. I then read all Marija's posts, she was amazing, with fabulous taste but more then that some very thought provoking and marvelous insites. It is incredibly sad.

I read about her loss on Charlotta's blog and was deeply saddened. I never got the pleasure of "meeting her." However, i feel for her family, her friends…It's truly a tragedy. I will be keeping them in my prayers.

It surreal that this has happened. We too were planning on meeting up in NYC this summer. She was such a special and warm lady. I literally can not fathom what her family is experiencing right now, its heartbreaking. The tribute Cory wrote on her blog is beyond touching. Its too sad.

This is so sad. I had not read Holding Court before, but spent hours on it this morning reading her past posts. It makes everything else seem so frivolous and makes you realize just how precious and valuable each day is.

Hi Ally, this is tragic news. I didn’t know her, but I know enough that such an occurrence can leave a family in enormous pain – oh, the children…! this just shows us the fragility of life, and that like Marija, we should live each moment to the fullest!

i still can't fathom it. it's incredibly sad, she was such a lovely, lovely person.

i was looking back over some comments and emails with marija last night and one stuck out. she had written – "Most of all, I want someone to write this about me: "a serious dose of elegant good taste".

And a more fitting description i couldn't find. She was kind to everyone, thoughtful, incredibly talented and really funny too! I don't know how her lovely family are coping right now and my heart goes out to them. jx

I am shocked and heartbroken. I counted Marija my friend and felt an instant bond with her. She wrote me a few days before she left and I responded to her on Monday, only to see Cory's tribute to his beloved wife shortly after.

I have also received a beyond lovely email from Cory since and I find him incredibly strong and brave. He is as beautiful as Marija and it is clear that they were very close, similar and in love. Both pure and genuine souls with a lot of love for the world and those in it.

It is unbearable to think about Nigel and Olivija now. I remember their smiling faces from Marija's post the other week – with them holding the vase.. They must be heartbroken, aching and devastated.

There will be a mass held in Marija's name at 10.30am Sat 17th July at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Chicago. The obituary in the Chicago Tribune mentioned that 'In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Marija's name to Children's Memorial Hospital.'

May this remarkable woman, our friend, rest in peace.

    x Charlotta
