Another Moodboard + Wishlist + Your Help Needed

DSC_13891

I have a lot to talk about today! First, in addition to the “moodboard-on-the-floor” for my office that I posted a few weeks ago, here’s another one I’m working with right now. This one is for the main level of the house. It’s not as fleshed out as the one for the office but I wanted to show you where I’m headed. These are pages from Elle Decoration UK and France, Domino, and the two wallpaper samples are from Farrow & Ball.

Here’s what Frenchie #2 thinks of my moodboards:

Okay, so maybe it’s time to get them off of the floor . . .

Second, Lana at the very stylish Lanalou Style has a fun series featuring the wishlists of different bloggers and asked me to share mine. She put this collage together – isn’t it so pretty? Please head over for all the details of what I’m coveting right now. Thank you for having me, Lana!

Lastly, I hate to drag you into this but . . . let me tell you what is going on. Basically, there is a website that is stealing content from my blog and posting it as their own. They’ve posted every single one of my posts from May, including all my guest bloggers’ posts. There’s probably more but I stopped looking after that because I don’t want to keep giving them more traffic. They’re not even trying to hide it; everything is taken verbatim.

I’ve left them messages through their contact form (there’s no email address anywhere on the site) but so far, they haven’t done anything about it. So, I’m hoping that if more people told them to take my content down that they might listen. The ironic thing is that by doing that, we’ll be sending them traffic, which is exactly what they want! But I don’t see what else I can do. So, if you’d like to help out, here is the link to their contact form:

http://www.thai-decor.com/contact/

Please include my URL (www.fromtherightbank.com) in your message so they know which content you’re talking about. They’re stealing from other sites too so I think they’ll need the clarification. [Update: They've removed their contact form and closed the comments on posts so there is no way to contact them anymore. I guess they didn't like getting all of our messages! But they still haven't removed any of my content. But thanks to all of you who contacted them (or tried)! I'll try to get in touch with their webhosting company now.] Ugh. Some people just suck. Thanks for your help and I’ll keep you posted as to what happens.

I cannot believe this! I know this also happened to Katiedid you may want to contact her and she if she got the issue resolved she may have some good tips! I hope you figure it out soon!!!

  2. Helena

    Loved your wish list Ally!

Can’t believe that’s happening! How can they actually do it so openly without any kind of shame? Incredible!

  3. Heather

I left a comment to them for you gurlie =]

Can't you sue for Plagiarism? I mean its not like they took a sentence here of there, they took the whole entire blog post verbatim!!!!

  4. Averill (Odi et Amo)

Ugh — I hate that! I found a site stealing mine as well a while back. Haven't gone back to see if they're still doing it…but I hope not!

Also, have you signed up for your free copyright (though as an attorney I feel the need to point out that you don't actually need to file for a copyright…it's automatic, but still it might give you some peace of mind — and discourage others from stealing your content):

love those sassy shoes on your wishlist and the amazing floors on your moodboard.

what huge loser to be copying without even changing any of the words, like the guest post stating that she was posting for ally, hello! they don't even get it…i'm going to leave a comment because it's so WRONG!

Boo hiss on theives. Interesting they keep their comments closed, yet say in their ABOUT section that "We are collecting articles from another sites and providing it to you." Um. That's called stealing if you don't credit the author fuckwit. Off to bully them…

Ugh, this totally sucks, and I hate to say this, but it happened to me as well, and they STILL haven't taken it down… I've messaged them several times but apparently, it doesn't matter :( Hope your situation gets resolved asap!

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I hadn't seen this particular blog and for some reason my Google Alerts hadn't picked it up, either. I get stolen from a lot, but they usually leave the links intact, so that at least if someone reads it they can find their way back to my blog. This one removed all the links.

I'm puzzled as to why they're going to all the trouble. They don't even have ads on the site. Comments were closed when I tried to leave one, so they don't seem to be aiming to build a readership, either. Very odd.

My favorite part is how they have a copyright notice on the blog posts they stole from us.

I sent them a cease and desist notice, but these types of bloggers rarely respond to those.

There is special coding you can insert on your site so that your images and text can't be grabbed, copied or cut. If you can't find it email me and I'll be glad to try to help!

ally- i wonder if you should clarify what you're meaning by someone stealing your posts. what's happening here is that they're actually taking traffic by posting the exact same things, as opposed to someone linking back (i sense that some people aren't seeing the difference).

as bloggers, we should be open with sharing images most of us are grabbing from other sources ANYWAYS, but this is obviously a different situation (they might have set up a feed from your blog which it was it looks like). i'm really sorry this is happening and i hope it gets resolved soon.

Thanks for all the support and suggestions, guys. One thing I've done is make it so they can't hotlink to my images so now at least their posts look like crap with just broken links where there should be images.

Let's see if they respond to the uproar we've caused today. Thanks so much. You're all the best!

  12. Jessie

I just found that the same thing is happening to me on a blog!!! They just copied and pasted tons of my posts. No credit to me or links to my blog. Nothing. They have a disclaimer saying they don't think they are doing anything wrong etc. etc… I sent them a comment, but I am sure they didn't read it. I felt very "violated" seeing photos of me painting my house and pictures of my pets on this persons blog!!!! I think its creepy.

The "blog" that is stealing my stuff is not the same blog that is taking your stuff. I guess I better make sure my stuff isn't on that blog also!!!! I do not mind if people take photos from my blog as long as they give me credit and link it back to my post. :)

I do love the "wish list" collage by the way. I really want one of those egg chairs also!

    love,

    jessie

  13. A Perfect Gray

Ally, you've inspired me to create a mood board for some projects I want to finish…

stinks about that other site stealing your stuff. I did see my guest post there, too. How did you find it? I don't know what we can do. Let's keep our ears open for a solution, but 'til then, please don't waste too much of your energy worrying about it. Any blog reader with even a little degree of discernment will catch on to their act. Please keep us posted, as this seems to be a fairly frequent problem… Best, Donna

  14. Jane

hi Ally, this is pretty annoying, I guess as another commenter has said it is also flattering. They are kind of crediting you because the posts say that it is From the Right Bank… Anyway the suggestion you might be able to sue them is a impractical – you would have to identify them, and in any event they are clearly based in Thailand. I agree you could speak to Go Daddy, but lots of complaints might do it.

Have you looked into Copyscape?? I think Lisa at A Bloomsbury Life has it if you look at the bottom of her blog, I THINK but am not sure it might protect or prevent people from copying content. I may be wrong about that.

Good luck, its all very annoying.. xoxo

    Jessie: That is super creepy!

Jessica and Donna: It was actually Cassandra from Coco+Kelley who found the site and told me about it.

Jane: I haven't tried Copyscape. I'll look into it. Thanks!

  16. callie grayson

oh no! that is not right!

I had to look….. the whole section is your blog Ally!! they basically copied and pasted right into their blog. and get this, at the bottom of THAT stealing blog, they have a copy right disclaimer!!

of all the nerve, they steal and then have the audacity to place a copy right on it!

I do have to say you have an awesome blog and they wish they could create something as exciting as yours!

let us know how it all turns out.

    xx

Hi Ally. Late as often into this conversation but hope you get the ripoff situation sorted out. Bizarre. But then much in this world is. And it would not help to say ripping off is the sincerest form of flattery. Definitely look into copyscape.

LOVE the blue wallpaper. That's the route I would take. It looks so convinced. Have fun!

I love your board – I want that bag, too!

Ditto the copyscape suggestion. I've seen the copyscape warning on more and more blogs lately. Sites that do this really do suck. I had one doing it for awhile that finally stopped. Though in all honesty, I didn't have anything to do with it. Maybe they got bored with my content?! ;) Go for copyscape – it will tackle sites that are doing this that you may not have yet discovered…

When I went to make contact and/or comment, I wasn't able to. Perhaps the uproar has made them sit up and take note? Well, here's hoping .. what a rotten lot!

  20. Lana

Such terrible, frustrating news, Ally, I hope you manage to get it sorted out, Margarita made some good suggestions though. Ugh some people…

On a happy note, it was great having you share your wishlist with my readers, thanks again!

That is lame! – and very annoying! Sorry to hear that. Hope it gets resolved quickly – let us know if there's anyone else to write.

On the up side… loved your list at Lanalou – and the picture of you :)

… and loved your new moodboard and both wallpapers, can't really decide between them. Right now I'm really into pale neutrals so I'm leaning towards the white + grey…

  22. Jane Flanagan

Hi Ally! Are they pulling your RSS feed? You should make sure to add a footnote to every post in your RSS feed with your Creative Commons copyright info and a link to your blog. This will likely put them (and others like them) off.
