Guest Blogger: Two Ellie
I’m Paula from Two Ellie and I am honored to be able to be a guest today. From the Right Bank is one of my all time favorite blogs and have been reading for quite sometime. I am even more excited that Ally has joined me in the South.
The design trend that I keep coming back to again and again is the painted interior door. Yes, this idea may not be completely new but it is one that I can’t get out of my mind. I am a huge fan of a neutral wall color and a painted door just brings the design to a whole other level. Kind of like adding the perfect accessory to a plain jane outfit. I personnaly am drawn most to an inky black door or really anything with a gray shade, but after doing a bit of research I must say I have become smitten with the idea of using a bold color.

I love bold colours and cannot imagine spaces without it. On my first flat I did exactly the oposite: off white doors and bold colours on the wall where the door was.
The selection here is great. Love the 3rd image's blue. Latelly i'm completely invaded by this shade of blue (and gold).

I love all these images – especially the one with the light blue front door.
Lovely photos and what a neat idea! I saw the newest episode of Sarah's House last night – and she did just that in her foyer/mudroom – bright red doors. They looked fab and made me want to paint some of my own!

lovely roundup, Paula. Painted doors (real doors – not the hollow cheap kind found in every rental of mine) is one of the first things I'd love to indulge in whenever I have a home someday. I've had that Nate Berkus photo saved in my inspiration files, too.

I like this look too. I've been leaning towards colored doors, but the black sure are classy and dramatic. Now I don't know!

Great Post Paula! All these images are lovely!
I share your obsession as well, Paula! These are all inspirational examples. The hardest part would be to choose a color. I love that second to last bedroom in particular. Such a pretty space!

I love the look as well. Several questions: should the surrounding baseboard be painted as well or can you get away with just painting the door trim? That could be an endless paint job. And, can you paint just one side of the door that faces outward? Thanks!
I especially like the black doors. They look great. And now I want to go paint a door black!
Great post. Thanks.

Wow – I love these examples. Those green doors from Domino have long been a favorite too! I still have that entire spread.
Struck by how many blues there are in this series – that wouldn't have occurred to me as a popular choice, but it works so well.

Love a painted (or even upholstered! with nailheads!!) door. It's a particularly great way to perk up a really cheap door (like the ones I have…) when you don't want to go through the expense of replacing them.

Wow, I'm totally inspired. I would love to do this in several rooms in my house. Just need to work on the husband…
Sally, I have painted doors in my home and we painted the doors plus trim but only on one side. Yes, a huge undertaking. I do think painting only the door and not the trim could make quite the statement too.

Love all these doors – painting them certainly saves on the cost of replacing them! Great post and congratulations on being a guest blogger!

Fabulous examples…I was just thinking of using a painted door in a space earlier today! Perhaps due to seeing the first episode of the new Sarah's House series, a country house. She painted two doors in the mud room a bright red…can't get the space out of my mind!
Thanks for adding to my desire to find a door to paint!

Great post. I am living in a rental, and I am having a hard time not painting all the wood trim that invades the entire house. Wood can be lovely, but so can color on doors.
Thanks for this post. I have been toying with the idea of painting the interior door to my garage. In my odd layout of a home, you can see it from the front door so I wanted something a little special. Your photos were inspiring… now to decide what color…
