Guest Blogger: Brooklyn Limestone
Hi all, its Mrs. Limestone here. When Ally asked me to guest post about my favorite design trend I was at a loss – what is really a trend vs. fad vs. a classic? I tend to be drawn to old styles that stay in fashion for long periods of time so I wasn’t sure what to pick. And then it hit me: the alaphabet!
I am completely in love when letters and words are incorporated into design. If I see a photo with a large neon letter on a shelf, I immediately stop at it. So I’m sharing some of my favorite incarnations of this trend today. There are quite a lot of ways it can be interpreted.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
Simple:
Identifying:
Ironic:

Dynamic:
Celebratory:
Commanding:
And my favorite of all – Referential!
I could go on and on but I think you get the message. The only problem is that there are so many ways to use this concept that I can’t decide how to execute it in my own home!
Thank you Ally for inviting me to guest post today. If you’d like to read more about me or my home, please visit my blog Brooklyn Limestone.

Great post! When I was at a party a few years ago, I happened to wander into the playroom, and the owners of the house had the cutest display of the alphabet – each letter was on a card, and the card reflected the letter and an animal the represented that letter. A few months later, I saw these cards in a store, and thought that I would frame them and do the same display….of course, that never happened!
Joy noel peace over the fireplace makes me happy.

Love the last concept. i used to have this habit to cut headlines from newspapers to then pin them telling different stories. good to remember it actually to start doing it again.

I'm so with you. I let out more than a little gasp last week when Restoration Hardware's email came promoting their cast metal letters. Heaven. I have three Js on my kitchen wall, in a variety of sizes & styles. I love them. I blame my love affair on the big M that graced the wall in Mary's apartment on the Mary Tyler Moore show.
One of my favorite trends as well, and one that I hope sticks around for years to come. Great examples!

This is one of my favorite design trends as well. Seeing all the ways people manifest the alphabet into their design make me want to re-do my own!
Fun photos…..great choice, xv.

I love it! I’ve never seen a chalkboard wall that I could fully get on board with, but this example is perfectly sophisticated while still whimsical. Great ideas!
Great choice. It is such a perfect mix of trendy & classic.
