Solid Gold + Thank You

I’ve been a silver and chrome kinda gal for years now but lately I’m really feeling gold and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s lovely images like these?

I can’t believe today is March already. (I thought I had a few more days!) I’d like to thank the lovely Pam from Red Ticking and Persis from Miles of Style for passing on the Sunshine Award to me in February. I was also tagged by Mise from Pretty Far West to list five things that make me happy. I was tagged with this a while back so if you missed it the first time around, you can find it here. Thank you for thinking of me, girls!

I was in Cole Hann several months ago and noticed the tables had thin dark gold legs with polished travertine tops. I loved them! They were classic without being retro. And the color of gold was perfect… it seemed modern, instead of reminding me think of the terrible cheap brass that used to be popular.

    I wish I could find a photo.

That second image is to die for. Gilt is fabulous and can be over the top, but a few touches here and there adds just the right amount of warmth and elegance.

I love the chest of drawers and the lamp. I've always preferred gold to silver and chrome for its opulent warmth, and one day I'll take everything to one of those "gold-plate your possessions while you wait" services for a lovely afternoon out. Yes, I'm a gullible, susceptible consumer.

It must be something in the air or a growing trend, because I too have fallen under the spell of gold. I think, in general, I prefer a warmer, more time-worn look. But then again, I'm mad for that shiny, brassy lamp in

front of the pink canvas. (Wearstler?) and I agree with Miss Brick, a mix of golds and silvers is a winning combination.

    Gorgeous images, Ally!

I am utterly obsessed with that second photograph. Not only the quality of the photograph but also the gold credenza. Quite unique!

Splendid Willow: How funny – I love that image and I actually had it in my post but then took it out! I thought it would be cheating because it's brass. :D

I like gold and I like chrome/silver. I'm sick of feeling like I must choose between the two. So the next place will be a mishmash I think. Maybe I'll throw in some bronze/iron and have a full awards podium. … sorry made me think of the Olympics. hehe

Naomi: Hee hee. I'm with you. And Lesley: Like the brick house and nkp, I'm really liking a mix. But you're so right, it's not an easy thing to do!

I too have been loving gold (and even brass!) recently — I wonder if we're all just experiencing groupthink? But after all this time off of gold/brass, maybe it just feels fresh and new again. A nice change of pace from the last 20 years of silver/nickel and oil rubbed bronze!

I love gold. For a long time, I've been a silver girl as well, but gold's just so glamorous — it's perfect in small portions, I believe. I prefer it slightly aged in appearance, though, to shiny. I mix metals, but carefully, focusing mainly on greys and silver, with gold injected in here and there.

I love that first image, Ally. The tiny, thin gold lines add just enough to the space…go for it! :)

      favorite and best: Me either!!!

Averill: I think that's exactly it. We're all craving something different.

Design Darling: I stopped doing those with the big move because my entire life is one giant to do list right now! Once I get settled, I may start doing those again. :)

I love gold too! These images are absolutely gorgeous!

I'm glad the Sunshine Award brought a smile on your face…you totally deserve the award coz I love your sense of style and your blog.

    xx.
