Worn Leather Chairs
February 3, 2010 | 31 comments
Given my chair addiction, it’s hard to believe that there could be a lack of seating around here but we could actually use an armchair in the family/keeping room. We just have our gray couch in there right now and that’s fine when it’s just the two of us but when my mom and another friend were here last week, we realized we needed another chair or two in that room. In the last house we had our orange Pop chair with the couch but that’s now in my office. So I’ve been trying to decide what kind of chair I want and I think I’d like a worn leather clubby chair like these:

or these two off to the left here:

I know you’ve all seen Abigail Ahern’s house before but it’s the perfect example of what I’m talking about:

The gray couch here is very similar to mine (see yesterday’s post for a photo). The beauty of this is that I’ve always loved distressed leather chairs and now I have a good excuse to get one! I love when that happens! So the search begins.

What a gorgeous trifecta of rooms. So much to love here…the lighting, art, color…but that second image just takes my breath away. And of course, those chairs are irresistible. Now you jut have to find that perfect balance of squishy, age-old character.

I love those rooms and I love the gray and orange from yesterday. Gorgeous!

A good plan. New leather doesn’t appeal to me at all, but worn leather has that cherished look, as though it has banked decades of happy comfort.

Yes…the more worn the better. Like a well used/loved saddle. I’ll be curious to see where you find a nice worn and frayed one!

I love that first photo – I too have it in my inspiration files. I say yes to the worn leather club chair – the rattier (in the best of ways) the better in my book.

love the worn leather. I bought 2 club chairs and have the kiddos go nuts on them to speed up the worn process, ha!

nkp: Yes, squishy is key!
mise: Me, too. As linda and vintage simple said, the more worn the better.
paula: Once I get the chair, can I borrow your kids to do the same?

Love the second pic, über cool decor! Love the chairs too. I know of a store here in Norway that sells them, but I’m pretty confident you can find something similar in the US, the possibilities are enormous!

The last chair is amazing. I love worn, distressed club chairs as well. Keeping room? That is the second time I have heard this expression in a week…one I wasn’t familiar with, but really like the sound of just the same!

Yes! Absolutely, Ally! Go for it! It will look fabulous with your sofa! I am thinking of one for our own family room. Maybe a distressed leather wingback chair. But I get a little nervous that it will give too much “shelter” and that you don’t see the world (or that hubby won’t hear me…)

I love chairs too, but I don’t have nearly enough. I’m on eBay right now, looking for accent chairs and extra dining room chairs as we speak. Might post some finds later…

My mom and I were just talking about how we both need a pair of worn in leather chairs. I think they are fabulous and the more worn in, the better!

I featured a house tour awhile back that included an office with two really worn leather chairs. The homeowner told me she picked them up at a garage sale for almost nothing because the seat cushions were completely shot. So she recovered the seat cushions with fabric and left the leather elsewhere.

I have that photo of Abigail Ahern’s house in my tear sheet file!! (I loved her living room – such great color combo). There’s something so cool and classic about a distressed leather chair…and I love that they’re perfect when you have pets that shed

Like the face of an elder person, you can read a history into each line. Abigail Ahern’s rooms send me in a tail-spin; in a good way. xx

I was a little skeptical about worn leather chairs at first, but after seeing these images you’ve definitely inspired me! the last image is just perfection, and luckily the grey couch is similar to mine as well!

you can’t go wrong with a comfy leather armchair! (or a pair so you and hubby can sit and cozy together!)
