More Chair Reupholstering Options

February 16, 2010 | 23 comments

So I think this is how I’ve decided to reupholster those chairs I showed you last week:

Picture 161

This chair is exactly the same style – down to the carvings in the wood – and it would fit in perfectly with the black and white color scheme I talked about yesterday.

I’m 99% sure (today) that that’s the way I want to go but here’s an example of how the chair could look painted blue which I had also talked about:

Picture 163

(But I would choose a different pattern fabric.)

And then here’s an option with the wood left as is:

Picture 162

With a really bold print, it could still be modern and fresh. Or maybe I’ll save this idea for the dining chairs. Photos of those are coming soon!

I think it depends a lot on where they are going, you don’t want it to be too much in terms of fabric pattern. If you upholster in a plainer fabric they can be moved around from room to room much more. But definitely Paint Them Black. xoxo

All really beautiful options. You’re running the gamut here from classic to bold to wow, and I love them all. But I’m really intrigued with painting the frame the dark blue-gray. I think it looks amazing with the hide, even though you were not thinking of going in that direction. Decisions, decisions. I’d say surprise yourself and step out of your comfort zone.

Always go with what makes you smile.

I like all your thoughts, so, without seeing the final nesting environment, my inclination is to stay with a classic, simplified pattern (e.g.: regency stripe, solid, shadow fleur) in a bold hue thats is washed or blackened to a neutral value.

That way you are free to dance new colors and patterns into the environment, on demand, as whimsical accents: a simple way to refresh without heavy consequence.

    can’t wait for the finals.

Can’t wait to see what you end up doing to the chairs!! I have to say that I’m loving the chair painted blue. Such a fresh take on those chairs, yet still classic.

I have a feeling I am going to love whatever you choose, but the black is so classic and modern all at once. I don’t think you would ever regret it!

Oh, why not do the deep blue with black linen fabric. Such a chic color combo and it would add a layer to your black and white color scheme! I just did a black chair with black linen and I like it so much that I occasionally go visit the room it’s sitting in just to look at it. Seriously. Marija

To me black on black looks the best, the chair style is decorative enough, so I would keep the upholstery simple.

Black or blue (black because every room needs something black or blue because it is more unexpected and yet so chic). Whatever you decide Ally – they are going to be some incredibly handsome chairs! xx Mon

I like the idea of painting the chair black and then going with a modern, fun upholstery print with a splash of color.

What about something like this: http://www.freshdesignblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/valbonne-chair.bmp

Susie: I’ll look forward to seeing those!

Jane and lisa b.: That’s another reason I like the black on black. It’ll be more versatile.

nkp: So you noticed that, eh? ;) I am all over the place! I think I want to keep these somewhat tame but try something funkier with another set of chairs I’ve got.

Marija: I hadn’t thought of that combo. That sounds like it could be really lovely as well.

Lesley: I’m working with a B&W color scheme in the living room where these chairs will go but I’ve got a bold pattern fabric to use on another set of chairs I have so stay tuned. :)

Hard to beat all black, but the options are endless. I was toying with using black patent leather?? But afraid to commit. Can’t wait for the final photo Ally.
