Back to Black and White

Thank you all so much for the sweet comments on Friday. It was a tough weekend and your thoughts and comments really meant a lot to me so thank you.  Everything is going to be okay so let’s get back to decorating!

As soon as we bought our new house, I made up my mind that the color scheme was going to be black, white and gray. But I got totally distracted from this plan when my parents’ things arrived because it’s all greens, browns and creams.

I was starting to go all over the place when I saw this home in Chicago Homes Magazine. This is very close to what I had envisioned originally.

Coincidentally, my parents sent down a set of white iron garden chairs that look kind of like this:

I wouldn’t have thought to use them in the house but I’m loving how this one looks here.

And I also love that there is one room where they played with a different color:

They also have that white armoire that I have been in love with forever:

As a matter of fact, I love every single piece of furniture, light fixture and accessory in this house. It’s just what I needed to put me back on track with my original plan.

hi there – they all look great and will work very well with your Frenchified modern chic style. I love that armoire too. It is obvious to me that you will need to paint reupholsterstaincushionisedrape your parents furniture to make the colours work. And can I say that although it is really sweet of them to give you some furniture I think a gift with strings (ie you can't change it) is a bit problematic – it will make you lose your decor-way. xoxo

Am loving the pictures of the Chicago house…. and I love the idea of your parents garden chairs put in a room as the ones you have shown. Doesn't that one look lovely in the hall ?

It's lovely to have some of your parents furniture and i'm sure that you will incorporate it into your lifestyle Ally. XXXX

Oh, this is painfully good. That light fixture in the dressing area is perfection. And I love all the contrast of light and dark, especially those rich, glossy walls. And how about those delicious pools of white silk tafetta puddling on the floors. Wowza. I couldn't live here, my boys would detroy this place in the blink of an eye. But I'd sure love to visit. Often. Sans kiddos. ;0)

to me those pics look blueish..? maybe it's just my crappy pc that's playing tricks, or the horrible flu i'm going through at the moment. however, fab fics, i can't wait to start my own decoration project soon!

    have a lovely day!

Jane: So true! I've got to find a way to make everything work but without causing hurt feelings.

Lorna: I can definitively say this is the first time birthing calves have come up at FTRB. :) I hope they're all healthy and happy!

the zhush: That's EXACTLY what I said! Thank goodness!

nkp: Aren't those drapes to die for?! I'm so wanting to put some up now!

tiina: You're right, there is a blue hue to all the photos. I would keep it more neutral. :)

WOW. What a beautiful home it is. I really like the idea of a pop of color in one room of the house. I think that you really cannot go wrong with black, gray + white. So very chic and timeless!

    Glad all is well :)

Ally, I hope everything goes back to normal soon and you can focus on what you truly love – design. I can't wait to see more photos of your new house as you decorate it and make it your home. Thanks for taking us along for the ride, dear!

    xo,
