Just When You Thought I Couldn’t Have Any More To Say About Gray Paint

While I’ve been going on and on about the Benjamin Moore “Trout Gray” I chose for the kitchen cabinets, I forgot to mention  the lighter gray I chose for the dining room and the master bedroom. It’s called “Bunny Gray” (also Benjamin Moore) which made me hesitate at first because I thought it was a lame name but really you shouldn’t choose a color based on a name. (Isn’t it funny how the smallest things can influence our decisions?)

Anyway, I agonized over both choices because I didn’t want either gray to be too blue or too green or too purple or too taupe . . . I also had to consider how they would look with the reddish-beige counters in the kitchen and the Benjamin Moore White 01 (my go-to/favorite) I’m using throughout the house. So that’s how I finally settled on these two. They seemed to best meet my criteria.

I’m loving how the Trout is looking on the cabinets and I’m also really happy about how the Bunny is turning out in the dining room:

The dining room leads into the kitchen through a small wet bar area so standing here, you can see both grays and they look great together! The trout and the bunny. Wouldn’t that be a good title for a children’s book?

But the Bunny is looking a little on the blue side in the bedroom:

I have to go back when there’s better light to be sure. It’s hard to tell from these photos but they look like two different colors because the rooms get different light. Color is so tricky! That’s what makes it both fun and frustrating.

Have a great weekend, everyone! Thanks for an amazing week, for all of the blogiversary wishes and wonderful feedback on the new digs. See you next week – when we’ll finally move in!

I think that the greys are looking beautiful. Sometimes, in certain light, grey can look blue. We used just a bit of grey in our Breakfast room and that can look a bit blue sometimes. I have used the same off- white as my sister and they look completely different in each room.

I love the names that they call different colours of paint. My friend and I were diccussing the naming of paint colours the other day and decided that there is probably someone whose job it is to name them all. On one of my paint charts there are two colours, one named 'This one' and one named 'That one'. My friend and I rekon that these were named after a particularly long and alcoholic lunch !!!! XXXX

It's funny about Bunny Gray – I ended up using it in a client's office. On the ceiling. We wanted blue, but that gray, in her space, reads blue (the trim has a lot of yellow in it)… So yes – color is tricky… But also so fun, no?? Anyway – I can't wait to see more..! It all looks beautiful, Ally, and I am glad you guys will get to move in next week – I can't imagine how hard it must be to be living in a temporary space for someone who loves design. And happy anniversary, by the way – and happy 2010!

    Tease-y reveals are the best!

    Have a great weekend, A.!

P.S. I think I forgot to wish you a happy blog anniversary. HAPPY HAPPY!

    Everything looks beautiful.

Color is tricky and can really change from space to space. You can always adjust the formula in the bedroom if you feel it's too blue. Trust your gut, it's usually right!

Have a wonderful weekend. Can't wait to see you in your beautiful new home!

Wow! Love the grey paint, but look at all that woodwork in that house! Ummm… I am totally jealous of your new home, lol.

I love all the grays. I've been wanting to repaint the walls in my living area that are more towards a green/gray color to just plain gray. After seeing your colors here, I'm taking my design cues from you and I'm going to re-paint.

I have to add my voice to the chorus of adoration – your color choices are lovely! I can't wait to see you all moved in! I wish I could paint my house gray but it gets so little light I just can't bear it. I am drooling over these teaser pictures!

I'm so easily influenced by paint names too. Sherwin Williams has some really bad paint color names. One of our exterior paint colors is called "Analytical Gray". How boring is that? I'm glad we didn't talk ourselves out of it though, because it is a really nice color. Love the "Bunny" gray paint (especially beautiful in the dining room), keep the pictures coming!

Grey is extremely tricky I think. So changeable due to light and surrounding colors. These greys looks fantastic, what a beautiful place.

If the 2nd room gets more light you might go for a darker grey. But why redo? So much work.

The curtains and funiture might do the rest and the shadows.

I also look at the name of coulors and try to not get too influenced my them ;-)

It's looking great! And yes, I totally relate on the paint name thing…I'm often won over by cool names/turned off by lame ones. It's nonsensical to be sure but I still love that my blue is called Drawing Room Blue and my gray is Lamp Room Gray. Sounds so much more sophisticated than my dining room and master bath, respectively, have any right to be!

I love both of those greys. The Bunny Grey looks great with the white of the wide paneling and coffer ceiling. I bet the Trout Grey looks great on cabinets.

P.S. Thanks so much for coming to visit and commenting on Mise's view – if we all could be so lucky.

    Ally,

Anyone who can agonize over grey to this level is my kinda' girl! I am right there with you. Just don't use "reveal" light bulbs…too blue! Use good old incandescent "yellow cast" light bulbs! I hate the sterile light the new bulbs give.

These glimpses of your new house are great – I'm very much a paint fan and am so pleased that your doors and trims are painted. Maybe it's only in Ireland that we have the 'it's wood, and wood is natural so we mustn't paint it' ailment so that there is just too much brown. And I'm with you on the influence of names – Trout says dignity and Thoreau to me, for some reason, whereas Bunny is a bit fluffy. Does your house have a name, by the way?
    .-= mise´s last post ..oh look, it's a giveaway! =-.

linda: The trout was under a tarp when I took these. But it will reveal itself soon!

Jacqueline: This one and that one! That's hilarious!

Ted: What a beautiful description! Now I love the colors even more!

    Aspirations: Thundercloud is so pretty!

Vintage, Raina and Griffo68: Thank you!

Averill: Drawing Room is a beautiful name – much more sophisticated than Bunny!

Amy: Thanks for visiting. I would die for that view of Mise's!

Theresa: Noted! Lots of incandescent bulbs for the bedroom!

Mise: I think we're a bit like that here too. I wouldn't have painted the trim and the doors had they not already been painted. (I just changed the color.) I wish my house did have a name! I love that tradition you have over there but we just have boring house numbers. If you'd like to give mine a name though, I'd be thrilled!

i love gray. my parents built a house 2 1/2 years ago and i politely insisted on a soft gray for my room, even though their decorator (who is talented) opposed. i'm older and no longer live with them but my mother says they always get compliments on my room. i know why!
