Even Darker and Busier Wallpaper
[It's finally move-in week - hooray! - so posts may be sporadic this week. Thanks for understanding!]
Thanks for all of your great wallpaper suggestions yesterday. I had so much fun looking at all the gorgeous patterns. In the end I narrowed down my choices to Solitude from Graham and Brown suggested by Lesley:

which is neck-in-neck with the Thatch pattern from Cavern that I posted yesterday:

And the wild card is Shantung which is also from Graham and Brown:

This sort of satisfies my desire for dark as well as frou frou but I’m probably going to file this one away for another room in the future because it comes in two other colors:

and I really love both but not necessarily for the powder room.
So for now, it’s between Solitude and Thatch. As Jessica wisely suggested, I’m going to order samples before I decide on anything. In the meantime, I’d like to take an informal poll: Solitude or Thatch?

Thatch, for its soft charcoal blurry quality, which makes it look classy and timeless.

Hands down, Thatch.
Solitude. It is just gorgeous
My vote is going to Solitude, even though I see the two commenters above me prefer the other. Apparently I just want to make this decision even harder for you!

Solitude!!! Love that it pulls in a floral aspect without being all out traditional!

Of the two, thatch, though I'm a bigger fan of the Graham & Brown paper.

Of course, I'm picking Solitude because I suggested it yesterday. I like that it essentially creates vertical stripes — without feeling like striped wallpaper.
And I love that it incorporates some floral without feeling traditional. So pretty and modern.

I really like Solitude. And its price is really good. Where I come from wallpapers are so expensive!
Throw a vote in for Thatch from me! LOVE it!

I vote Solitude.

Thatch!!!! Timeless. Solitude looks a little dated to me – like all the prints we were seeing last year.
Ok…I'm going for thatch BUT would like to see a pic of it in the room…is it a HUGE repeat or smaller? Looks like a very close up pic where solitude is from farther away. Solitude has a lovely quality, too, though.

Thatch. I'm trying to find a place for it in my own home. Maybe our downstairs bath.

Solitude! I love it!

I vote for solitude. but then again maybe i would change my mind if I saw a bigger swatch of thatch. Either which way- love the black and white for a powder room!
Thatch is definitely my favorite of those picks. A wallpapered bathroom is going to look stunning, Ally!

While both are beautiful…I'm with Kristy…I think the branch floral wallpaper silhouette will have jumped the shark soon if not already…Thatch.
I definitely definitely prefer thatch, but I think it's going to come down to scale. Do either companies have a room visualizer or show a room papered with the patterns in question?
Also, I know it's not about being trendy, but I see the whole organic modern thing going out in favor of artsy prints, geometrics and florals.
Just my two cents!

Solitude for sure! Love it! Really not a fan of Thatch but it is hard to see what it would look like in a room since it is such a small sample.
they're both lovely, but i think i vote solitude. just stumbled upon your blog awhile ago, thanks for all the inspiration! & good luck with the move!
Solitude. Though I do admit I prefer the pink and black Shantung over the others. I hope you use it elsewhere. I used wallpaper for the first time last year – I don't recall the name of the print, but it's from Divine Design – Candice Olson, and we just love it!
Solitude… and good luck wiht the move!!

Hi…just found your blog on houzz.com and think it's wonderful.
My vote is for the Shantung papers (not the red). Sorry!
without hesitation – shantung in black and pink!

Thatch – because it seems to be a play and interpretation of the more traditional.

Thatch, because it will look good with the rest of the house. XXXX

I just love the fact that you are using wallpaper. It adds so much life and character! The designs now are so beautiful, and I you have narrowed down a couple of great ones.

I personally prefer the Solitude. Thatch looks too '70s to me. I think my parents had a hideous bed covering with an almost identical pattern in the '70s and '80s. Solitude is aptly named because it makes me think of walking alone through winter meadows.
thatch.
thatch- like on lost i crack the code to the hatch
like a freak in the nizzy
wallpaper your hizzy
thatch puts me in a tizzy

Oh, I realize I am a little late to give you suggestions ~ but have you checked out Cole & Sons – quite possibly the Classix Exotic Flock? They've got some really nice dark background wallpapers.
Also, don't even get me started on Osborne and Little – there are far too many amazing choices there! http://www.osborneandlittle.com/collections/
Best of luck!

I vote for Solitude.

I'm voting Thatch. Solitude, although very attractive, looks like an IKEA pattern that has been around for a while and will be gone soon.
Happy New Year, Alek! I've been sort of out of the loop, but I've been peeking in on you every now and then! So excited to decorate vicariously with you! I vote for solitude… amazing!!!!

I vote for Thatch. It's has more of a "now" look. Solitude is pretty, but I think is a look which is past its prime. But then, you will know best which matches the character of the house:-)
I hope you use the black and pink Shantung somewhere too – to me, a bathroom would be the perfect place!

Maybe it's my African roots but I vote thatch!
Would look so amazing against sleek white.

Eff! I can't decide…I like the pattern on Solitude, but feel like the scale is too tight. The Thatch looks cool, but I can't tell how big each leaf is supposed to be so I'm having a hard time visualizing.
I guess I'll table my vote until after you get samples! Good luck!

I like the Thatch pattern from Cavern! Very different and chic!!

Ally dear, 1 or 2! They both work. I am personally a little tired of large blooms (I must have seen too much of them lately).
My favorite source for wallpaper is Tapetorama in Sweden. (Not to make it any harder on you!)
http://www.tapetorama.se/english/index.htm
(I know they are up to date and they offer really wonderful designs. I ordered the classic Hick's wall paper there for my entry – and I am still happy every time I enter the house!)
Hooray for moving in!
Happy rest of the week. Ox Mon
I prefer the Solitude (although I was torn because the Thatch is a really cool modern pattern). Funny timing that you're picking out wallpaper. My last post was about The Wallpaper Collective. Most of the samples that I posted are a bit on the funky side, but they have some absolutely stunning, unique, and elegant designs designs. I can't wait to see your finished bathroom. I have wallpaper envy!
.-= Marsi @ The Cottage Cheese´s last post ..Insanely cool designs at The Wallpaper Collective =-.
Solitude gets my vote. Not so blurry.
Graham and Brown makes really incredible prints – and I love the Solitude design. Fern Living makes some really nice paper as well.
Solitude looks more timeless. Thatch in your post looks like a post-modern kind of thing, too busy. Can't wait to see what you pick!
