If I Were Decorating for Christmas . . .

I’m not a big holiday person and consequently, you won’t see holiday decor in my house most of the year. But that all changes come Christmas.

I can’t explain it but it’s the one (and only) holiday I really love.

Every year, I go for a tall, fresh cut tree, big wreaths, string lights, and lots of glitter and sparkle.

But this year, as we are in our temporary apartment, I’m not decorating and it’s just killing me.

So let me live vicariously – have you gotten the tree? Hung the wreath? Strung the lights? Tell me, tell me!

I love the "tree" of presents. And once they're all opened – the holiday decor is already put away!

Dear Blogpal!
Just briefly stopping by with my very best wishes for Xmas and the New Year! Can’t tell you how much I’ve missed your great posts since my last visit – but hope to see you very soon back at my place where I’ve just posted my latest Christmas Lola Lifeline! All the best & see you again soon!

Love those images and that stocking! That's what I want!!
My decorations are up but we've had an issue with the lights on our faux tree (which I was against anyway but that's another story). Without the tree, it seems SO bare!

That first picture is SO beautiful! Thanks for sharing… it's so sad you can't decorate! Maybe get a mini tree in a pot?
I thought I was done until my daughter got out of bed last night to tell me "Christmas is almost here and we haven't even decorated!"
WHAT!? Oh lordy, we were done in my mind. So this weekend out will come all the tacky stuff, the kids will be thrilled!
How whimsical, the ornaments spilling out of the hearth, and that is some shoot, the ornaments lining the staircase…spectacular!!

We ALWAYS have to have a real tree…couldn't possibly have an artificial one. I have a wreath on the door, something up the stairs and a few nice things on our fireplaces. I am going to take photos and do a post with them and then you will be able to see. XXXX

Please get a mini tree in a pot, a wreath or even a vase full of twigs with some shiny balls (that's what I did)! Just put up something to make yourself feel good and enjoy the season in your new city!!

I haven't done anything yet… living as an expat means that I can return to my home only in the very last second before Christmas. this means hectic preparations and last-minute decorating… but I try to do my best to get into Chrsitmas mood and these photos are really helpful!

Love the baubles on the stairs, magical. Xmas is my favourite time of the year, I live in Australia so we don't have the end of year celebrations that Americans do: Thanksgiving and Halloween (although Halloween is becoming a bit more obvious here), so when Dec 1 arrives a massive tree goes up, nativity scene, garlands, wreaths, advent calenders, stockings, the works. As I have 4.5 and 3 year old boys as well, it just adds to the magic of this holiday.
Sorry this comment is so long, but I really love Xmas decor!!
Cheers

You're living well, even if it's through somebody else! Fabulous choices in decor.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for visiting the domestic fringe today.

Amazing decorating ideas! It makes me wish for more living space than my tiny Manhattan studio! Enjoy the Holidays.

I too adore Christmas! It has been hard having small children and trying to decorate. This year has been better, they are looking instead of touching.

These sure are alot of inspiring pictures. Love all the baubles and glitz and glam. Too bad you don't get to decorate much.

so pretty…
I always say, if I were designing and there were no people involved, it would be much prettier, i.e. christmas balls falling down the stairs:)

Something about that first image that makes my so happy! Maybe it's the pink bubbly, or quite possibly the gorgeous stacks of presents!
Tree is up, no wreath, but lots of candles and baubles everywhere!

welcome back to your blog – I like the new banner (and name) – there is a (Venetian) chandelier and egg chair in the banner which sums up your style, I guess – great idea – good luck with your new house – happy holiday!

Those pics are astonishingly magical.
I love the green walls of the opening shot.
So far~ we've indulged in blown glass ornaments by local artists…will be travelin' to Kentucky to celebrate and I'm hoping for a white Christmas!
Great images, Ally! They're lovely…
As for the decorating, we are nearly done. Every single room in the house is decorated each year, whether it is a simple little tree, or completely decked out.
Our tree this year is a bit of a disaster. 13 feet tall and a disaster! The lights are a problem and try finding great Christmas lights this week? Eeek! However, I'm hopeful, and with a little innovation, we should have our real tree fully done tomorrow
I bet you're really wanting to decorate! I like Daniella's idea, though. It's a charming thought…
Hope you are having a great weekend!
