The Big News

moving2

Well, we just wouldn’t be us if we didn’t pick up and move just as we’re getting comfortable. So that’s just what we’re doing. We’re moving!

I know! It kind of came out of nowhere for us too. Long story short: the hubs is changing jobs and it requires us to move to . . . Atlanta!

That’s right, I will now be one of them:

atl

[For those of you who don't live in the US and therefore aren't fortunate enough to experience this slice of quality American television, these are the Real Housewives of Atlanta.] I’ll do my best to stay out of hair-pulling, name- calling, screaming matches in public places though.

I’m actually there – or here, rather – right now, looking for a house! I know! As you can imagine, I’m having a ball viewing all these homes. My brain is in overdrive, mentally remodeling, rearranging and envisioning myself in all of these houses!

bed

It’s all very exciting but it’s also going to be hard to say good bye to our beloved house in Seattle. As we get ready to sell it (*sniff, sniff*) I’m over the moon that a sneak peek of it was featured at Design Sponge yesterday. I’m especially thrilled that it’s getting such a nice tribute before we go. Thank you, Design Sponge!

Phew! I think that’s enough excitement for one day! I’ll give you an update on my house search tomorrow. :)

Congrats! That’s so exciting, yet sad that you are leaving that gorgeous home I just saw on Design Sponge. I literally just posted on the black + white area rug, and how its on my next to purchase for my home list! Good Luck with moving and house hunting, sounds like fun to me. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

    xoxo

Hey that IS big news. Very exciting, I think you must like moving more than me – those boxes make me feel ill. So you can become a southern gal, right? Lots of iced tea, and houses with big verandahs and shady trees. !! good luck with house hunting. xoxo

Oh no!!!! A sad day for us in the Northwest… But I am happy for you. You sound excited and upbeat and I know that you will take Atlanta by charm. And thank goodness for the internet. Now, I am banking on a blog farewell drink or two! OX Monika.

Exciting!! Have fun looking for a new house! You'll love redecorating anyways right? Loved your home sneak peek too though, you have great taste.

You're unstoppable!! I'm excited (and curious) to see how you incorporate Atlanta into your design style.

    What happens with Apartment Therapy??

Good luck with everything (the sale and the purchase). I know you have fierce wanderlust, but I also know that there are aspects of moving that are less cheerful too… I hope those are minimal!

I have family in Atlanta….here are some tips for the area.

Innman Park is full of bungalows that are all being restored right now…fab place to live…but anything too close to little 5 points might not resell so well…it is a bit more dangerous.

If you move up on the northern side (my family is in Roswell) then there are two great little places…by the same owner I believe: Swallow at the Hollow for great bbq and Green's on Green St with fried chicken and huge pies.

The first chance you have to leave the city drive up to the north georgia mountains (ok hills)….there are some great little vineyards starting up there…most with a downhome feel….but Montaluce feels like you are in Italian heaven.

Get the year pass to the aquarium and you can go any old time you want…I think it is very relaxing…unless there happen to be 100s of elementary children running around.

hope you love your new place!

Congrats, Alek! This is big news indeed! But I can sense the excitement in your writing – the possibilities of a new place, a new start are always so exhilarating! Best of luck in your house hunt – I know you will find a gorgeous place to call home.

As a Seattelite myself, part of me is sad you’ll be leaving Seattle though :) I’ll be there next week and would love to have the chance to meet you before you go! Let me know!

wow a whole new ballgame! I am so enjoying your blogs, being an antique textile dealer I love the contrast of what you do. The antique French linens would sit well with your interiors

Oh Congrats, Alek!! I saw your home over at design sponge…and I just totally fell madly in love with your pure white bedroom. Out next home (we are in the midst of a home reno fiasco where the contractor ran out with our money), I want all white furniture!!!! A lot of upkeep, but hey, it looks good!!

You will love Atlanta. Susie from eye spy is here, as you know, and she and I are friends from PTA. Call us for a primer on southern speak, where to find the kinds of shops you like, fun things to do, and we’ll make sure you are feeling at home right away.

  12. Raina

I am SO EXCITED for purely selfish reasons! I’ll be headed to Atlanta this spring to visit blog buddies NKP from “Head Over Heels” and SusieQ from “Eye Spy.” I hope we can include you in our hijinks!

You will adore Atlanta – it is a design lovin’ town!

Congrats. You must be so happy!!!

I love to move. It's tough because of packing, running around and all those good bye parties, but I LOVE NEW EXPERIENCES.

I don't like routine at all.

I'm sure you gonna have lots of new ideas, inspirations for your fantastic blog.

BTW, i would love to live in NYC. I hope I'll be able to move next year. I already started to look for a job there :) London is a bit clautrophobic

Yippee! Welcome to A-town! { Yeah, no one says A-town around here. Well maybe those wig-wearing hair-pullers. } You’ll be surrounded by girls who are dying to show you the ins + outs — Style Court, Brilliant Asylum, Head Over Heels, Fav + Best, and moi and more. We should have a meet up! Can’t wait to see your new house and each and every detail of decorating.

    Alek!

Huge news! In fact, I'm really thrilled about it because this means I might actually get to meet you 'in person' one day! Born and raised in Metro Atlanta and all my family is still there, so we visit quite often! Used to live across the street from Piedmont Park in Midtown – my favorite little loft space yet!

    Congrats!
