The Best Bookshelf Ever + Name My Blog?

www.fromtherightbank.com

I’m positively floored by this piece by Ron Arad. It was exhibited at MoMA recently and is called “Oh, the Farmer and the Cowman Should Be Friends.” (Hmmmm.) It’s not for sale, as far as I know, but I can see someone much more competent than me DIY’ing something similar.

How cool would this look in any house? Like mine, for example?

Name My Blog?
And now for something completely different . . .  As I get ready to move, I need your help. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to ask you to help move boxes!) I think most of you know how I came up with my blog name (I moved from the right bank of Paris to Seattle which is on the west – sometimes called left – coast of the US.) I thought the Right/Left thing was pretty clever but I never considered what would happen if I moved. If I were really clever, I would have thought that through given that we move like all the time. But I didn’t. And now I’m in a pickle.

So I need your help with my blog name. I’m keeping the “From the Right Bank” part of it because that’s how everyone knows my blog and it’s also my URL (www.fromtherightbank.com). What I need to figure out is what to do with “to the Left Coast” part. As I see it, there’s just no way to work the Right/Left thing into a new name but if you have ideas, please tell me! In the meantime, I’ve come up with a few ideas and would love your input. If you have a moment, please vote for your choice. And as I said, if you have other ideas, I’d love to hear them. Thank you!

    Good morning,

On my blogroll your blog is already called "From the Right bank" (otherwise it would occupy 2 lines). It is a perfect name for a blog. It is where you started (your blog) from, right ?! So it is always the right name.

Then: in the second headline, underneath, you can write the whole string:

From the right bank to the left coast to the deep south … with style (and you add wherever you move)

    Good advise?

    Have a great week !

i love ron arad's work. i've myself a chair, but it's still in portugal waiting an opportunity to move to london (or else where, as i'm looking for an opportunity to live and work in nyc). the simplicity of his work is always poetic.

about your blog name, i voted "from the right bank with love". i love the movie as well as the name. i have a post on my blog called from portugal with love… and it's clear what you do in here is with lots of love too…

it sounds you need a change, that's why you're asking for our opinion, but if you're not sure about it, just leave it as "from the right bank" and when you get the inspiration from your new home, you might come with a wow idea, if you know what i mean :)

    That bookshelf is incredible!

I voted – I like From the Right Bank … with style or just leaving it From the Right Bank. Either way, it's going to be exciting to see what sort of new inspiration you get from living in the South.

    Happy Moving…

That’s an out there bookcase Ally!

I don’t think you should change your blog name, despite the move! I think it is so apt as it is, and we all know it this way, together with the story behind it.

Wow that bookshelf. Okay I am WAY behind on my blog reading, I am just figuring out you are Atl bound. You will be so close to me, we will have to meet in Atlanta sometime! Now time to go vote….

From the Right Bank to the Deep South flows the best but I think in the end it doesn't matter so much what your blog is called when it is so loved by all :-)

It's great you can keep your Right Bank name so at least there won't be any confusion with that!

(BTW I have never understood how Georgia which is way up there is considered the Deep South while Texas sometimes isn't even considered South at all? Is it time for me to take a few history lessons?)

fabulously curious bookshelf. love it. wish it was for sale for everyone, like me :) just voted on your poll. i picked plain ol' from the right bank. but maybe you could add to… so that it might read from the right bank to…

just an idea. since your location might always change it would keep people guessing. how fun though!

I too voted for "From the Right Bank…with style". Though I also really like Suzie's suggestion of just going with "From the Right Bank" but including the whole litany of "to the left coast to the deep south etc" in the header.

  9. Someone

I think "From the Right Bank", simply that. Keep it simple and let others decide if you're doing it with style. Adding "with love" is sort of cheesy, a bit cliche even.

I do like the idea of listing where you've been, but perhaps as a sub-heading. to the left coast, to the deep south… Where you're going is a huge part of your journey.

    Have fun!!

  10. ALEK

Thanks for your input, everyone! It's really helpful!

    Marianne: Definitely!

Sophie: I've wondered about that, too. I'm sure there's an explanation for it but I don't know what it is!

Someone: "With Love" was never one of the options. And I agree that the places are key in the name.

I voted for…From the Right Bank to the Deep South but whatever you decide will ultimately be the right decision:)

Thanks for your comment and Good Luck with your move!

To be perfectly honest, I often just say "From the Right Bank" when I refer to your lovely blog.

It's short + sweet + memorable — so key for naming.

I'm liking the idea, though, of adding your location to the header, just as suggested previously, as a sort of ending to the phrase…

    {xo}

    P.S funky piece!

I have wondered what I would do with my blog if I ever get tired of the combination of black, white, and yellow…

I wondered if you were going to change your name as soon as your announced the news.

I think you should call it

    "From the Right Bank…"

Since, knowing you, another move at some point is likely.

    Second option: leave it.

Not entirely convinced it needs to change, (you could just drop the latter half, and add an elipse), but I did find these nicknames for Atlanta: The Big Peach, The ATL, A-Town, Hotlanta, Capital of the South, the City too busy to hate, City of Trees, The Athens of the South, and Dogwood City. I personally like "The Big Peach." But am not attached to any of them really.

"from the right bank to the left of florida"? ha.

of your choices, i'd choose "from the right bank" for being short and sweet, with name recognition.

    best wishes on the move.

Keep it the way it is. Or, if you really feel you must change it, go for the shorter version: from the right bank… (you can fill in the dots as you move around the country). But I say: keep the original name. It's what we know and love you by.
