Hard thing to do. When I married my hubby I moved into the bachelor pad he had bought before we had met. It wasn't what I had invisioned my first real home to be, but it was exciting none the less. Over the years we made improvements and discovered hidden treasures. Hickory wood floors under ugly 60's sculpted carpet was one. When we finally decided to sell it was kinda heart wrenching. Our first child had come home there. We had built a life there and it was hard to imagine leaving it. Although, closing the wonderful old French doors (reinstalled after discovering them under the house) for the last time was sad. We had a new adventure.....a big one! I didn't know it at the time, but we were preggers with baby number two and building a brand new house to fill with new memories! Good luck Ally. I'll be staying tuned.

I think a home is such a personal and emotional decision that we all ultimately make this decision from the gut (and then jimmy the numbers to suit our decision :-)). Hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving! Can't wait to catch with you once you've moved into your place in HOTlanta!

I agree, Ally, it's difficult not to make an emotional decision! On one hand, a house is an investment, on the other hand, it is your home, where you live, where your memories are built, where your passion for decor is exemplified.

I am excited for you and your husband, and the new memories that will be built in your new home. Rules be damned! Keep your heart in it. It's in the right place :)

Happy Thanksgiving to you*

Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

So far, I've only been an apartment dweller in my adult life. And each time I move, it's such a sad feeling to leave a place that has so many memories - even though it belonged to someone else first and will be someone else's afterward.

Yes, that's hard. A house gets so personal. And yet you'll have a sense of moving on to better things, an opportunity for expansion and experimentation, and maybe a new theme tune in your head for new neighbours. My own tried and tested rule is that if you're given a choice, you should always take the path of greater change. Seems to me that's what you instinctively do and that you're having a ball.
