Guest Post: Le Banc Moussu
November 19, 2009 | 17 Comments

This was an old farmhouse with sheepbarn built at the end of the eighteenth century close from the bay of Somme in Picardy right upon Normandy.

Construction in bricks for the lower part and wood and clay with fresh straw for the upper part so it’s very well naturally regulated.

We did almost everything ourselves for 15 years.

We had to renew almost all the house and also the inside.

We went to Belgium to get nice old pink bricks and bought the wood chimney from antiques even the floors are made with melted art terracotta like old ones.

The work is almost finished except two rooms.

The first thing we did is the garden to let time to plants to grow.

I’m passionate in art and history, I did learn “art of faux” and and painting as you might see in my photos album on the left part of my blog: Le banc moussu (means: the old mossy bench). This blog is about Picardy but mostly about Paris where I’m living most of the time. We make together “promenade” round Paris, discovering Paris history through streets and buildings photos, street after street like a lively guide. Also shopping and best ” pâtisserie” and restaurants. I’m your Parisian friend. Living there for 30 years.
I hope you’ll love my French country house as I love it.

Thank you Alek for inviting me on your website and showing the hard job we had to do on this house. Such a reward now to leave Paris every week end and spend two days there.
Merci

Love it I do, Christian! What an amazing labor of love. It shows in every nook and cranny. There is clearly something very special about this place and the light in your photos is divine. I really adore all the time-worn surfaces…the smooth wood, gorgeous floors, crinkled linen, and all the little details you so thoughtfully attended to. An amazing restoration!
Thank you for sharing your lovely home. Or should I say, Merci! -nelya

It’s so nice to see pictures of the house in Picardy, so perfectly presented on this website. I am a friend of Christian’s, this is most definately not an ordinary house, it is indeed, as one person said a ‘haven’, it’s a sanctuary where, good taste, good living, art and culture all come together to form the perfect country house. I recollect fondly of last summer, and suggest this lovely region to anyone new in France. Le banc moussu is a must.
