Abigail Ahern

I think most of you know how fabulous stylist and designer Abigail Ahern is. On the off chance you don’t, NKP at Head Over Heels had a great post on her work a couple of months ago. And more recently, so did Jenny at My Favorite and My Best.
Of all the spaces she’s designed for herself and others, the one that is just killing me is this:

This is her own living room and I love it so much it hurts. The chandelier is bananas and since my own Murano chandelier has bitten the dust, I actually have an excuse to get another one. Has anyone seen this in the flesh? What do you think? Aside from the chandelier, I love, love, love this couch. And don’t even get me going about the gray walls. I guess what I’m saying is I basically want to move into her house.
I’m going to continue the discussion of this room (and the couch in particular) tomorrow after I’ve stopped spazzing out. Join me again tomorrow, won’t you?

I’m feeling the pain right alongside you…love it so much it hurts! Everything about this space is gorgeous and I can’t imagine that chandalier is any less striking in person.
I’ve got big plans for that color as well. “Down Pipe,” I think is the official moniker. I just inherited a crazy funky seventies gold mirror from my grandmother and I plan to hang it in my bedroom against a wall painted in that very shade. Now you have me thinking that I need a cushy camel-toned sofa to be its neighbor! :0)
(psst- thanks for the link love, lady!)

That is a fabulous room! And I have almost the exact same couch (even the fabric is the same), it’s called a Howard. I totally agree that the chandelier is beyond amazing. Seems like she has a soft spot for out of the ordinary lighting. Love it!!! Have a great Tuesday!

It’s like a 3D decal, that chandelier, isn’t it? And I love her bookcase wallpaper (there’s a close-up of that on her own blog here: http://abigailahern.wordpress.com/2009/08/26/private-spaces/). Looking forward to your further thoughts on the sofa!

I sure will! The home of Jenna Lyons was recently featured on Living Etc., she too has those deep gray walls. I believe she even used chalkboard paint. They looked FaBuLous just as the gray wall here do. What a dynamic contrast would occur when paired with murano chandelier. Mwah! Meanwhile, I wasn’t familiar with Abigail Ahern-thanks for adding her to my radar!

You know something? That chandelier is AWESOME! And the couch, if only….My favorite aspect of that house, though, is the wallpaper of books. And where can I find a couch like that???

g: The paint color is Farrow & Ball’s “Down Pipe.” I’m dying to use it in my house!
Raina: I totally forgot to mention her book! I just ordered it too.
Devon: I was wondering the same thing . . . maybe we can get a volume discount?
Lindsey Lou: That’ll be discussed in my post tomorrow!
sanity fair: She has a store in London where it’s sold. It’s £2,500. I’m not sure of any sources in the U.S. though.

That is an amazing chandelier. so architectural. like how the color of the light – brown, connects with the couch.
Like the dark gray walls too. just painted my bathroom medium gray. it’s a cool color for a minimalist theme.
angus dog is adorable!

That gray paint is fantastic — like a sooty black, it just completely erases the walls.

Oh Alek – I missed your post re your chandelier that is soo so so sad, and no I am not trying to rub it in I feel for you. They are v heavy though so the attachment probably just gave way. I am not persuaded about brown with grey, I think the couch looks really comfortable and I guess that is what counts. And also you would have to be careful about skewering your head on the wire light thing. But that’s just me Miss Super Practical. xoxo

The gray walls and sofa are fabulous. The wire Chandelier is spectacular. It’s one of those pieces like Tom Dixon’s Link Easy Chair, it’s a collectors item and just gets better. I cannot wait to see what you replace your gorgeous Murano with! I must admit I have still not recovered from that post:-( I get too attached to things.
