Haunted By The Ghost Chair

In the past couple of weeks, I’ve written about black chandeliers as well as black and white decor. In putting those posts together, I forgot this one.

I can’t tell you how much I love this room. The white! The view! The black chandelier! The Saarinen table! A banquette! I even have that Marimekko pillow!

But what really gets me are the ghost chairs. They really get me in this photo from last week’s post too:

Now, I know they’re old news. Even though I have always loved them, I never considered buying one because I thought it was a fad, something I’d get sick of as soon as I brought home.

Well it’s been years and I still love them.

In the meantime, I’ve bought plenty of other things that I thought were lifelong purchases which have turned out not to be the case.

So is it time to take the plunge? At one point does something stop being a fleeting fancy? Do you have something you’ve resisted buying?

I want to thank you all again for your support over at AT this week and also for your votes for the Love this Site Award. It really means so much to me so thank you! Have a great weekend!

I think you should take the plunge – and use the chair somewhere unexpected, or mix it up with other chairs. Looks great in your image with the Saarinen table! They are a new modern classic!

They look gorgeous in the right setting. I'm a fan of these chairs but I'd want to try them out first. How do you know if they're comfortable? There is nothing worse than sitting down at a dinner party and your backside goes numb…comfort should never be underestimated.

The ghost chair is one of my favourite chairs from Philippe Starck. The combination of aesthetics, material and colour is perfect. It has lots of attitude. It's a must have in contemporary furniture design.

I had these on order before I left Europe but they didn't make the shipping deadline. I didn't re-order them from the US and haven't regretted that – although one in the master bath might be cool

Regarding the ghost chairs, and your hesitation to commit to what might be a passing fancy – I felt the same way about the Harman Kardon Soundsticks – but after nine years on the market – I still find them as beautiful as the first time I saw them – so last month we purchased them. They look fabulous on the sideboard in our dining room – right next to a 1940s tiered cake stand. Ahh, just love good design.

I bought mine a year ago and have no regrets. Right now it's next to my console in the entry. I am assuming over the years it will live in many different spots in my house, but I can't imagine not loving it!

remeber that concrete wall of mine with all the greys , the garden table.. the shutters and the old zink…. think of that together with this chair! o lalala how divine don't you think?

I have liked this kartell for years as well as I always liked the lamp they made a few years ago.

But more then that I always liked the tolix chairs!

Alek, this is hilarious! I kid you not — I just yesterday purchased a ghost chair! I am so beyond excited! I'm going to pick it up soon and put it with my tulip table :) What a delightful post — I really love the last image with the moulding work behind — such a stunning contrast of simplicity in design and ornate. The sheepskin is a must, too, especially for these super cold months.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Your post has inspired me so much :)

I think if you've loved something that long, then you really love it. And you should have it. Plus, I think it'll look great in your black/white/wood toned living room. It'll add a great modern element to the room. Go for it!

I've always loved the cheeky take on

the traditional, classic Louis chair. The lines are beautiful and the modern fabrication irresistible. That said, a few years back we visited our local Kattell to see these in person and they just were not comfortable. Lovely to look at-yes, but can I imagine a long, lingering dinner seated in one of these-no. But as an accent chair, say in an entry next to a console or in a studio positioned below a stack of books or even in a bathroom- well, why not.

Anyway, if they pull at your heart strings the way you say they do, then I think the decision has already been

    made. ;0)

I'm with you, the lucite lure is really pulling me in lately! I absolutely love pictures 3 & 4! Lucite + wood or concrete is ideal; the glam-meets-rustic look is one of my favorites, for sure!
