Orange Crush: Walls
September 1, 2009 | 28 Comments

Welcome to the second installment of Orange Crush, a collaboration between From the Right Bank to the Left Coast and Down and Out Chic where we show you the fabulousness that is orange. (If you missed the first installment, you can find it here.)
This week, I’d like to show you some orange walls. Now, as much as I love it, even I wouldn’t paint an entire room orange. But one wall can make a real statement and it’s more versatile than you would think. It works well in a contemporary setting as you’d expect:

but it also looks great on this clapboard too:

It also makes a great backdrop for art collections:

Look how it makes these botanical pieces pop:

But I think my favorite use of it is on an architectural feature like columns

or chimney breasts

against white walls. Would you ever paint a wall orange?
For her part in Orange Crush, Christina is featuring orange etsy finds today at Down and Out Chic so hop on over and see what you think. And speaking of etsy, I’m totally excited that she has opened her own etsy shop. Christina is incredibly creative and has designed some of the cutest vintage-inspired costume jewelry like these:

And her prices are completely affordable in true Down and Out Chic style. So if you haven’t been by her shop yet, be sure to stop by.
We’ll both be back next month with more orange love. In the meantime, if you have suggestions or ideas for this series, please let us know!

Sure I’d paint a wall orange but it’s all about the contrast, isn’t it? I love it on the clapboard – just bold enough.

I would never in a fit paint a wall orange, except that our beautiful house in Marrakech – http://moroccanmaryam.typepad.com/my_marrakesh/2007/11/he-was-tall-ver.html – had odd walls painted in amazing pops of colour by our very stylish landlord. I’m not sure I’m entirely converted, but the effect was wonderful.

Love orange. In fact I have a number of walls painted in that citrus shade, as well as a ceiling! The first image is so striking and I’m a fool for a clapboard wall, especially one painted orange!

Oh Alek, you are so succeeding in making an orange convertor out of me. It’s a color I never thought I’d want to use, but that’s all changing now, thanks to you and Christina!

Yes, yes, yes, I would totally paint a wall orange. Having said that, I was actually going to paint my laundry room orange, and then somehow it ended up gray. How weird is that??
Anyway, my sewing room has a LOT of orange in it. and I’m planning on painting a vintage sewing chest orange enamel (which is totally freaking out my blue-loving best friend!)

Nope – I would not paint a wall orange…although the clapboard in the stairwell isn’t quite that bad…I look forward to next month’s attempt…

A splash of orange in an otherwise neutral room is just beautiful. The botanical corner is stunning!
I love Christina, and her shop is too cute! I bought a pair of her hair bobbies (like the minty-aqua green ones pictured), plus a pair of earrings. They are so cute!
