Mismatched Chairs

www.fromtherightbank.com

Years ago, I had a friend with the cutest apartment in San Francisco that was furnished on practically no budget. One of my favorite things about her apartment was the dining area which consisted of a really long rustic table and a mishmash of random chairs that she either found or were given. I had never seen anyone do that before and remember being really impressed. Nowadays, it seems to be a pretty popular option and here are some of my favorite examples.

There was also a great post on mixing chairs at Down and Out Chic a while ago.

I just love that look, Alek. I think that it makes visitors feel welcome, as there is nothing pretentious about it…. I really love the 'posh' miss match of chairs in picture second from bottom…..they have a really sophisticated look but with a sense of humour. XXXX

I'm a huge fan of this too and was considering it for my new house, I had even started collecting the chairs. But now that I'm living in the space I realized I needed a round table, so I'm not so sure if I'm going to do the mismatched chairs around a round table..what do you think of that?!

I DO like the look, the only problem is that it seems to work well in a large open space (let's your mind visually "breathe" or something) and I don't have much of that in my house! Otherwise I like it… the second photo really tickles my fancy!

I love the look… We have mismatched chairs around our kitchen table. It started out that way bc we couldn't afford to buy chairs and just pick them up at garage sales. That was ten years ago. We've since replaced the table, but I'm still liking the chair ensemble.

the first picture is a little much, but the rest look great! as long as there is a common theme (all similar colors or same general style, diff color), I support this.

I really enjoyed that post. Here's the thing – I love the look as long as it's well-done – which is to say with an artistic eye. Otherwise, it runs the risk of looking collegiate.

    Hi Alek!

So good to be back! Your guest post was a huge hit – especially with my husband who is ready to book tickets to Verona asap!

Mismatched chairs – great for others, but I don't think my 'all the ducks in a row' style could do it.

    Happy week to you!

I am a total fan! I think it is just so incredibly charming of a look. Especially crazy about that third image–love how three of the chairs are similar color/style and then the one yellow chair just pops out.

    Hi Alek,

I like the idea. When things get too neat it feels sterile. This messes it up nicely. I really like the second to last photo. What a great conversation starter for a dinner party!

When all the pictures you showed are SO screaming YES, well of course I am a FAN. It screams ecclectic, yet cozy and also CHIC. I ecspecially love the table with the wing back chairs at the head…Gorgeous!

I'm such a fan of this look — mismatched chairs and farmhouse table spells the perfect dining room to me. if I ever have a proper dining room, this is as proper as it's getting. sad to hear about your chandelier, Alek! that's stinks to lose something lovely and sentimental.
