Mamma Mia

I know I’m way behind here but this blog is how I keep ideas organized for myself and I need to put this in my “Cabin” category for future reference. I finally watched “Mamma Mia” on DVD a couple of weeks ago and like most of the design world, I totally fell for the interiors. It’s the sort of bohemian look I have in mind for our cabin so I scoured the internet looking for photos.

I never thought I’d like a blue bed.

Yellow bench with striped upholstery? Yes, please.

All the patterns and textiles were swoon-worthy. I can’t wait to bring out all of mine and use them!

There was a post at Design Sponge on it, including two mood boards based on these looks. There was also another post at Silver Screen Surroundings with a great roundup of patterns by Josef Frank, some of which were used in the film. (And you know how much I adore him.)

As for the movie itself, I didn’t expect to like it very much because I’d seen the show on Broadway an embarrassing number of times and enjoyed it so much but it was actually quite entertaining. Did you see it? Did you take note of the interiors too? Shall we all run off to Greece and open a taverna?

Yes, yes, yes and yes. I did see it, I loved the interiors (a bit more than the film, actually !!), I want to run away to Greece and lets open a Taverna !!!! But I want to come back to England after a month or so !

I love Abba and the scenery and interiors were gorgeous and Meryl Streep was brilliant BUT I'm not a great Piers Brosnan fan and this didn't make me one. He was awful !!!!….but a real feelgood film.

It was such a fun movie. It was a bit surreal to see some of my favorite actors being so goofy. You could tell they were having a great time. The interiors were fun as well. Although my likes are very simple and very white I still love interiors with colors and patterns galore. Perhaps it's because it reminds me of my childhood home? The colors in this movie (inside and out) were out of this world! It's fun to notice the things you have pointed out. Josef Frank's textiles are fab! BTW I say yes to the taverna, even if only for a couple of weeks:-)

How fabulous. I met the costume designer {the amazing Ann Roth} last year + she said it was the most fun she has ever had on set with Meryl {she costumes nearly all of her films} or anybody else in her entire career. The interiors are to die for!

    Cheers.
