Diane Bergeron

I recently discovered designer Diane Bergeron, thanks to Apartment Therapy. Her home was published in Vogue Living Australia and at first glance, I thought it was one of those houses that I like even though it’s not “me.”

Picture 28

Do you know what I mean? A style that you can appreciate even if it’s not your own?

Picture 32

But the more I saw, the more I thought it could be me.

Picture 29

And I think the reason is that her home is in a converted warehouse and she kept the original warehouse features and details.

Picture 24

So it’s classic but it has enough of a contemporary, industrial vibe.

Vogue Living describes her style as “classic contemporary.”

What would you call it? Because whatever it is, I’m liking it.

BTW, is it just me or is Vogue Living Australia just bringing it lately? Jane had a great idea recently of doing a magazine swap with bloggers in other countries and I would love to do that! If any of my Aussie girls would like to trade Vogue Living or Inside Out for whatever American publication of your choice, please leave me a comment or send me an email. This also goes for anyone who wants to exchange Livingetc., Art & Décoration, Bolig Liv, and Skona Hem.

I know what you mean about "a style that you can appreciate even if it’s not your own"… although her style is my style.

    There's a lot detail. I love detail.

All photos are fantastic, but nr 2 & 5 are my very very special ones. Black & white background , stripes and a splash of colour is "me".

I like your blog very much. You have always very interesting articles.

    Have a good day.

I love this look, whatever it's called. It's smart and chic yet has a casual air to it. Do you guys get our magazines? Most of our newsagencies sell the OS mags although they may be a month behind. I do remember seeing that idea about swapping but can't remember how it went. Happy to send anything over that you would like.

Her sense of color and pattern is in a league of its own.

P.S. My local Barnes & Noble carries VLA, Inside Out, and Belle (another incredibly fab Aussie shelter mag). You may want to check your B&N.

Ohh, I am feeling these… a lot. Madeline Weinrib rugs make me melt everytime, but I really like the way it is paired with the furniture in the first pic…and the wood work on the door…oh.

And floor to ceiling black and white stripes, I mean you just can't go wrong there.

I love her use of color. SO pretty! I love the Australian look. It's far more contemporary than our American style I think. The magazine swap is brilliant, if I didn't tear out of mine so much! But I just spent $92 a few weekends ago on my fave international mags at Barnes and Noble. That wasn't very recession smart…but so worth it!

I have recently started buying Vogue Living for this very reason – it used to see just so-so, but lately every issue is wonderful! It won't seduce me away from World of Interiors of course, but I'm loving it…

..almost as much as I am loving that home! While the white couch/carpet might not mix with a baby who is a few weeks away from learning to crawl, the style is wonderfully clean without being minimalist (something I could never do). I love the use of colour and pattern. I have recently become braver about colour, but pattern is quite a leap for me.

I do know what you mean. I can appreciate all sorts of styles, but they might not be what I would have in my home. It's not really my style either, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. I love the kitchen and the bathroom and the last picture of the green and white chair is lovely. XXXX

Oh – I got like 5 french style mags (including Art&Decoration) when I was in Belgium. It was 100% pure bliss! I would send you mine but I've already cut out a ton of my favorite pages.

No idea what you would call it except perfect! At first glace I didn’t really connect with the space, but when I looked again I could picture myself moving right in, I love the mix of everything, color, pattern- modern, traditional, shiny and matte- I just love it all!

    HI Alek

I was flicking through my copy of VL Australia on the weekend [rubbing it in. hehe]. I love the metal door in the kitchen and bits and pieces of this article but there were probably other homes I preferred in this edition. I was lucky enough to have Julie from Chic Little Shop bring me back some American magazines recently .. what a treat… I think we can buy a lot of the US mags here… we just pay through the nose.. but my nose can handle it occasionally hehe. Let me know which magazines you are interested in. Julie

Oh, I know I know. Me too. Maybe I would take a third of what she has in terms of pattern and colour. Maybe even half. There's so much goodness here and it works perfectly, but my minimalist self would need to take it down a notch.

  12. Sarah Klassen/Haute

A very interesting home with much detail. You can see that she uses a lot of care and thought when putting together her space, yet is not overly fussy. It's refreshing and surprising!

I really like how she has kept so many of the original features in place, such as those ultra-cool doors in the first image. It adds character. I'm quite fond of her sense of style…

Great post, Alek ~ I hope you have a great weeks as well :)

I totally get what you mean! It's nice to know that others feel the same way too, because I thought I was being flaky. The patterns are out there and fun, I just noticed that she kept most of the walls white, except for the living area. I think that all the patterns add texture and warmth and steady the eye.

(Alek, I'll drop u an email)

I tend to think of a lot of pattern as "not me", but I find myself loving these rooms as well! That second picture with the grasscloth, and the black and white is deeply satisfying :-)

And the reds and oranges in the following pictures.. Wow!
