Traveling Thursday: Lebua At State Tower

Picture 46

We’re thinking of going to Southeast Asia later in the year and that means we’ll probably have to go through Bangkok. Now Bangkok is not one my favorite places in the world. It’s a bit too hot, crowded and polluted for my taste. But it does have amazing food, great hotels, and excellent service and it’s really convenient as a transit point. So if we do end up there for a day or two, you certainly won’t hear me complain. And I’m thinking about staying at the new-ish Lebua at State Tower.

Hello, rooftop bar on the 63rd floor! How are you and your panoramic views of the city and river?

Look at that view! Is that amazing or what? It also has the world’s highest al fresco restaurant.

All the rooms are suites and have balconies overlooking the city and river.

They look very nice but I doubt I’ll be spending much time in our room because I’ll be too busy checking out the pool:

more restaurants with more great views:

and of course, that rooftop bar again!

Not a bad way to spend a night or two, right? Happy Traveling Thursday and bon voyage!

That looks divine. I have never had much luck with hotels in Bangkok (I chose badly). That rooftop bar is incredible. Of course big downside to roof top bar in South East Asia is the frizzy hair which will accompany the martinis. If you are going to SEA you MUST go to Bali. It is not negotiable.

My husband and I travel a lot, both pack-packing and hotelling, but Bangkok is definitely a city for the swish hotel rather than the budget hostel. We stayed in The Davis – http://www.davisbangkok.net/ – last time. We got in late from a 10 hour bus ride from Angkor Wat and they upgraded us to a suite, but it's really Baan Davis – the little chalets – that you want to stay in there.

    Happy travels!

Wow, that view is amazing. I love Bangkok too for exactly the same reasons. I remember when I first went and people asked what I thought, they couldn't believe I liked it. It's dirty and smelly and overcrowded and the traffic is a nightmare – I know, that's what I love about it. It's so different from everywhere else.

Jane: Ours isn't going to be a beach trip but if it were, I agree with you 100%. Bali is one of the most beautiful places on earth!

my favorite and my best: Hee hee. I'll try to refrain. :)

I think Lebua is a great setting for your International Woman of Mystery image. Maybe a Parisian hotel feature some Thursday, as my regular, the Royal Monceau, is out of action and I need a new haunt?

Jacqueline: Glad to be of service!

mise: The Royal Monceau was your haunt? Very swanky! And it's very close to my old apartment. :) I think I have a Paris hotel that will meet your standards. I'll post it soon!

International woman of mystery – ha! I hope we never meet lest it shatter the image!

Ok, First of all, Where are you going in the fall?! AHH! I am of course so in love with SEA since my family lived there for 10 years!!! My Dad just got back from Singapore last night and I was making him tell me everything that's changed, about his taxi drivers, everything! I miss Asia every single day!

Secondly, I have to admit, I'm kinda in love with Bangkok. I love the hot mess that it is. I love the shopping, it's the shopping and the food that make me forget the population and the pollution. I could never tire of shopping there, from antiques, to silver, to semi precious stones to silk…I love it too much!~ I've been lucky to have visited Bangkok a number of times (I ran track meets there in highschool!) but I haven't been in the last few years! I want to visit this hotel now! The top of the Banyan tree is also supposedly one of the best restaurants in Bangkok!!
