Traveling Thursday: Adrère Amellal

Picture 55

Adrère Amellal is straight out of a traveler’s fantasy.

Picture 73

Picture 74

It’s located in the Siwa Oasis in western Egypt and the setting is not to be believed.

Picture 56

It is one the world’s last remaining oases and it’s filled with ancient ruins, rock formations, palm groves and salt lakes.

Picture 62

In the middle of this, the Adrère Amellal was built as an ecolodge made up of renovated Siwan houses.

Picture 64

All the furnishings are made locally using natural materials and traditional design.

Picture 57

Meals are made from locally sourced food.

Picture 63

And there is no electricity or phones.

Picture 69

It’s all candlelight!

Picture 70

Between the setting and the lodge itself, this has to be one of the most special places in the world.

Picture 58

It seems impossible to me that a place like this actually exists and I’m dying to see it for myself. One day!

Happy Traveling Thursday and bon voyage!

Oh my goodness! What complete and utter perfection! We haven't been to Egypt yet, as we were saving it for a longer trip through the Near East in general, but now that we're in babyland perhaps we should consider just going sooner rather than later, as a longer trip might be a bit harder for a couple of years… *goes off to check flights*

Oh my gosh, how beautiful is this place? Perhaps I would have had a better time in Egypt if I would have gone and stayed here instead of taking 18 hour train rides during Eid in 3rd class, and staying in hostels!!! One day I'll be back! Besides, I didnt' get to shop as much as I would have like in Cairo, they have some gorgeous antiques. This place is LOVELY!

Thanks, everyone, I'm really happy that you're enjoying Traveling Thursdays. I went back and forth about whether to start it or not so it means a lot to me that you like it.

    Jennifer: Don't do that! ;)

Jacqueline: Thank you! I was hoping to introduce some new places to you all so I'm happy to hear that.

nkp: I hadn't thought about it that way but you're right, that's exactly what I am doing. :)

Love and dying to see this place too. It's not that far from Sweden and the flight tickets are affordable.

Thanks for bringing me there. This place is so much ancient feelings, huh? Hope you travel to the Philippines to the islands from North to South. You can find a one of a kind place too.

    Have a wonderful day!

    xoxo
