Black Couches
Deviating from our usual ode to white around here, I’d like to show you some photos of gorgeous black couches I’ve been collecting. I never thought of buying a black couch before because I always thought of them as big, leather things for man caves but these have got me reconsidering.
This one is probably my favorite:
Do any of you have black couches? If you do, what pieces do you have with it? If not, would you ever consider it?

These are gorgeous! So luxe. I think the third and last are my favorites. They certainly ground a room with their forceful color and add elegance at the same time. I also love touches of gold with them, as shown on the last.
We don't have a black couch, just a chair, and throw a large, green pillow in a flocked velvet on top for sharp contrast.
The couch in the first pic looks pretty heavenly to me, but then again, I think I'd have any of these!!

I would never have considered a black sofa, but some of these are really nice. It seems as though softening them with surroundings of white and curves does the trick.

I agree the third one is my favorite although all are attractive *statement* pieces through sheer force of color. Here in Andalucia, everyone has white or very light-colored walls & furniture juxtaposed with bright accessories in terms of paintings, rugs, throws etc.

they are stunning. leather is nice to look at but seems a little austere to me for a family type room. and i could never have a black fabric sofa with 2 cats in residence. although i WOULD love a black leather chair. yes.

LOVE the first one! The leather upholstery is such a surprising element, as the couches from this particular period are usually covered in very different fabrics. Am really not that fond of black, but all of these really compliment the rest of the design. Great selection!!

I had never considered a black couch before, for all the reasons you mentioned. However, it really works when the rest of the room is white or light neutrals. Great rooms, thanks for opening my mind to the black couch!
Oh! I need that black cowhide rug! That would be perfect for my place!

I've got a leather one and not in my man's cave simply in my white and grey country house and I think it works.

Hi!!!! well mine couches are not black but they are a very dark brown (chocolate) and I'm having my doubts of what to put around them… I have a wall orange and I'll like to put some orange pillows but I also like green with brown so I'm thinking on re-painting the wall because I want my curtains green… I don't know yet… I'll let you know

Oh, I like number 2! It looks comfy and works so well in that eclectic room. I'd be tempted to grab a new book, a cup of tea, and park myself there all afternoon.

these look fab! I had once a black couch, but I always piled colorful throws and pillows on it so I realized black was not my thing.

I've never really been a fan of black couches, only because the BF had them before we moved in together and they were total uglies! But these are all beautiful! In the September issue of Elle Decor there are a pair of black leather couches that I would LOVE in my house- they are on page 88

Considering when you open my wardrobe, it's full of black clothes, maybe I should consider a black sofa….these are lovely and don't look austere at all…I like them and would consider one but would I get fed up with it after a while ?…the jury is out on this one. XXXX

i've never considered a black couch before, they're perhaps a bit too luxurious for me. i do like your examples though.
I really like the last one, but the thought of having to keep every bit of lint or fur off of a black sofa just makes me say, 'forget it'!
