Wall Decal?

Thanks to Hooked On Houses, I won a gift certificate a while back for a wall decal. I’m not sure I have a place for one but I thought this one was kind of fun. (Naturally.)
There’s also this one which could potentially work on one wall in the guest bathroom which is kind of long and narrow.

What do you think? And what color? The both come in a rainbow of colors and all my walls are white. If you hate both of these or decals in general, let me know that too. I would love your honest opinions. Thanks!

Now with a surname of French, which one do you think I prefer? I like it just the way it is in the photo. Congrats on your win. It's always nice to win something.

Hmmm i do love the first one! x

Hmmm… if it doesn't work for you is it bad form to raffle the gift certificate off on your site (re-gift IS green, after all…)

Hummm. I'm not sure if I've fallen for the whole wall decal thing. I think I like wallpaper, or art. Maybe I'm too old school!? They seem appropriate for a nursery though?! But naturally I'd also choose the big E!

No! No, no, no.
Gift it.
In general I think the whole wall decal thing is overdone and too kitchy. However, I do like the idea of using them to dress up a guest bathroom.
Other than that I think Meg is spot on in saying that they work well in a nursery.

I think in the right space it could work.
Well, I like them both, but in someone else's house. I think decals in general are a fad whose time is passing, and I'd rather have plain walls with pictures. From the images you've posted, your house is too stylish to need these! I agree with Meg that decals/stickers are great for children's rooms, though.

While decals are still a love or hate kind of thing with people, I think anything /any trend can work when the designer (you) has a true eye for style (which you do!).
I actually think the bottom one in black would look really cool on a white wall. High contrast and lots of visual surprise for your guest!
Let us know what you decide!

Love the first one too.
i'm not mad about the first one at all….i really like the flowers though and think they'd look great in green on a white wall, i'd say you could get sick of them pretty quickly though

My honest opinion? The guest bathroom is a perfect place for a wall decal. You have such style but you want to have fun too, right?
Why not get a silvery or other light color so that the decal becomes a subtle accent on the white wall? It could look very cool!

Hmmph, I had a thought over these kinda things for about 5 minutes and decided I would end up absolutely itching to peel them straight off again. I'd toyed with the idea of something over my sliding bedroom doors, but I think it's a bit gimmicky. Sort of like that phase in the early 90s when I was 10 and wanted to stencil stars and moons on my bedroom walls. Thankfully, mother said no.

I love wall decals, although I have not purchased any for my home. Unless you count a chalkboard decal I put up in the kitchen. I do love it too!

Hmm I don't mind the look of wall decals. I think it could look great in some spaces, but from what I've seen of your house I'm not sure I would use them in your home.
Perhaps in the guest bathroom it would work. I would do the second one you picked.

Thank you all for your input! I knew I could count on you!
Jane: I had thought about the same thing but didn't want to seem ungrateful . . .
I have to vote neither of these on this one…this is why I have stopped signing up for giveaways I don't want to win. and have subsequently stopped winning. ha

Lucky winner! They have fallen a bit out of grace with me, although I don't want to cut them short. I think they'd look great in a child's room, office or a laundry room. I do like the Eiffel Tower! No matter which one you choose or where you apply it, it'll be terrific; no doubt!

I'm not 100% Sure. I thought I loved them, but the more I see them, the more kitch-y I think they look. I think maybe in a grouping of actual pictures on a wall? Or a particular space? I don't know.

As a follow up question, would it be bad form if I gave it away?
I normally don't like them. However, I think the second one could work in the bathroom.
I would love to put those flowers in a little girl's room. Now I just need to have one. Ah ha

I agree with some other bloggers, they look a bit overdone. Especially with flowers.. But the first one looks much better, I think..

These are really cute! I would put them in my little girl's room, or if I had a garage, I would decorate the walls in there.

Am generally not too fond of them, however do like the first one!

I don't know Alek, I think these are cute in a children's space, but not so much in an adult room. I'm all for playful and fun and having something a bit unexpected in your home, but maybe that's the problem, the market is just inundated with these. That said, if I had to choose, what about the Eiffel in your studio? Simple in black would make a graphic statement.?

I love it, esp. the last one, but I do think it's more suitable for younger ppl.
I would like to have a wall like that in my house. In fact, we want to make a small schoolboard wall, with magnets and where we and family and friends can leave messages and drawings…

in the interest of honesty, i don't love the wall decals, unless maybe in a kids room…or maybe something really impactful and huge, like a face or something, but that's more art-like. i'm rambling.

Hi I agree with nkp and Eva – I have them in my daughter's room (fairies, flowers, rabbits) and they look divine and address her desire to paint the wall of her room a 'much darker brigher pink'. For adults, not so sure I think you would get sick of it in a month.

I love those little white flowers on the dark brown wall- so cute!!
Oh Alek, this is a tough one. The Eiffel Tower decal could look great in black on your study wall as a little remembrance of your beloved Paris. They do tend to look nice in smaller areas, like your guest bathroom. Personally, with my white walls I would keep them black or grey for a muted effect. But if it doesn't work with your decor then keep it green and re-gift.

the first one seems a little overwhelming to me but i love the second!! with a white wall i think any bright color would look fab. to go with whatever color scheme you got going on!
I don't care for them… Except maybe in a playroom. And then the kids would surely peel them off. So, my answer's no…
And absolutely give it away. Best that someone else enjoys it.

the first one is really neat! the 2nd one would be really cool if it was multi colored – like lollipops
ive been LOVING wall decals recently. they're so much easier than wall paper! ive been ordering like crazy from a site called http://www.wallsplots.com i think they're great inexpensive ways to spice up a room!
i really don't know about them alek. i've thought about them a lot but i suppose it would have to be the right one and maybe more for an office, play room or nursery.

Honestly (as usual) I don't like either….what are the other options? I know you might not like any upfront, but what about letting us see all the options so we can take a look for you and recco something that might fit within a room from the house that you've shared in the past on the blog?
