There’s Zebra Stripes Then There’s Zebra AND Stripes
June 24, 2009 | 22 comments
I know there’s intense debate about the zebra rug and even though it’s totally ubiquitous now, I have to say I’m still pretty fond of it. Ours was a housewarming gift from my parents and my only wish is that they hadn’t spent so much on it. You can get these suckers for so much less now! Anyhoo, in one of my rearrangement moods, I wanted to see what the zebra would look like over the striped rug we recently got.

What do you think? Too much?

Yes, yes it is. Please send me the striped rug on the bottom ASAP. Problem solved.

I’m a wee bit dizzy with all the stripes! Maybe just the zebra would do just fine…

hmm.. i’m not sure now what i think. maybe it’s better without the rug under. what a fantastic floor you have by the way, is it cement? cool

I don’t know about this one…
That striped rug is such perfection, but with the zebra on top (which I am not a fan of in any room) its just too much…
Bravo for experimenting though!

Hmm I love zebra and I love stripes, but I’m not loving it together. Sorry! But the table does look gorgeous all set up!

I also love that floor, polished concrete? Gorgeous!

I actually like it. Mixed with beautiful, elegant decor. x

This is great! Keep your thoughts coming, please!
Raina: You are due for a housewarming gift soon, right?
Tiina and Meg: Yes, the floor is concrete. I LOVE it.

Firstly, I love the new look of the blog…congrats! I can’t wait to catch up on my reading.
I love the zebra and I love that stripe-y IKEA number, but together they are a wee overpowering. I think either one alone is a stunner in your oh-so-beautiful space!

yes yes I think a little too much
the one at the bottom will be just perfect

I think it’s fun and fresh! But probably not something you’ll keep this way forever and ever. If you love it – leave it! You’ll know when it’s time for a change and then you can switch it up again!

I’m in agreement with the majority of other commenters. I think the striped rug provides enough of a visual statement. When combined with the zebra, I’m not sure which one to focus on. (BTW, I loved the striped rug placement in your previous living room photos.)

Alas – I still adore it too!!

If I never see another zebra rug it will be too soon…
June 25th, 2009 @ 8:25 am
But I want the striped rug!
Has anyone else already mentioned that your floor is stunning???
June 25th, 2009 @ 7:31 pm
hmmmmmm. nope i can’t get on board with both.
I like the zebra by itself under the table because of the organic shape. I think a bold graphic rug might be distracting from the bold graphic set up of the table and chairs. Especially one with a lot of white and black in it. More especially two of them.
maybe no rug?
I’m of the school of no rugs under dining tables after being scolded by a friend from Israel who just didn’t get the whole rug thing.
You’ll just spill food on it! She kept saying.

Good idea, but maybe a tad too much. Maybe just the zebra rug, keeps things a bit different. Of course, the bottom one looks good too. I like the look, just not “wild” about it. Har. Har. Har. And yes, the floor is beautiful!

Well, I think the people have spoken! Thank you all for your input. I knew I could count on you. I think the zebra will go solo (which is how it was before).
For all you anti-zebra people: I hear you. It’s one of those love it or hate it things. God knows I have a lot of those!

Cut a striped rug into a zebra shape.
Wouldn’t that be cool?
(p.s. I liked the double up rugs, at least for a summer thing.)
